Apple VP: iPhone XR has been company’s best-selling model every day since it launched

“Apple Inc’s iPhone XR has been the company’s best-selling iPhone model every day since it went on sale in mid-October, a company executive told Reuters on Wednesday,” Stephen Nellis reports for Reuters.

“The iPhone XR, which costs $749, was announced alongside two other models, the iPhone XS and XS Max, which start at $999,” Nellis reports. “The XR brings many key features of those phones to a lower price point, and analysts widely viewed it as Apple’s effort to bring facial recognition unlocking and its newest processing chip to a wider set of buyers.”

“Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of product marketing, told Reuters that the iPhone XR is currently Apple’s ‘most mainstream product and our most popular iPhone,'” Nellis reports. “‘Since the iPhone XR became available, it’s been the best-selling iPhone each and every day that it’s been on sale,’ Joswiak told Reuters.”

iPhone XR comes in six new finishes: white, black, blue, yellow, coral and (PRODUCT)RED.

MacDailyNews Take: As expected.

As Apple intended. The iPhone XR is the X-class iPhone for the masses!MacDailyNews, October 16, 2018

Why would the hoi polloi choose the 5.8-inch iPhone XS when they can get the 6.1-inch iPhone XR? They don’t know the difference between LCD and OLED, they have no idea what 3D Touch is, and it looks/works pretty much the same to them – plus it comes in colors (that they’ll immediately cover with a case; no matter, colors sell).MacDailyNews, September 20, 2018

  1. Best selling model?
How many times have we heard this on different models in the past!
Now that Apple stopped reporting unit sales numbers, they can say anything they want without worrying about getting caught on hyping by manipulation.
When the X was out last year, Tim Cook said it was the best selling model in the history of Apple or some such. But the hyped super cycle never happened, and after the Holiday Season, it was revealed the number one selling model was actually the 8. Even then, Tim Cook was insisting that the sales of the X were “through the roof”. I guess he carefully chose the word, and did not say the X was the number one selling model anymore.

        1. If it’s truly the case of the market overreacting then it’s merely an opportunity for Apple to buy back shares at a reduced price and for confident Apple investors to buy at least a few more shares. I’m just standing pat and I’m certainly not panicking although I don’t like to hear such negative news about Apple on a daily basis.

Why is it that General Motors stock can rise when they’re cutting vehicle production, laying off employees and closing plants while Apple stock tanks 25% on just a slight miss of iPhone sales? I’m sorry, but I don’t understand how companies are valued because there doesn’t seem to be much value consistency across companies.

I suppose the change in transparency could have been a major reason why Apple tanked as hard as it did, but that’s still a stupid reason for people to dump the stock because that’s just narrow-minded behavior when supply chain rumors are unsubstantiated. Sure, I think iPhone sales can drop but I’m not dumping my stock for that reason and also miss out on my dividends.

        2. LMFAO. Apple dividends are a joke. Capital One pays 2% on their money market accounts.

Keep your stock and your oh so precious dividends.

180 million shares of Apple have been dumped in the past 2 weeks. The smart money left a long time ago.

          Enjoy your bag holding.

        3. Those 180 million shares of Apple have not been dumped, every one of them has been bought by somebody, and those investors are expecting to make a good return on that investment in bargain price shares.

        4. You are forgetting the element of time. The sale of hardware today predicts the sales of software tomorrow. More expensive devices run more expensive software, and a lot more of it. So by hiding actual unit sales, Apple is hiding future income guidance. It’s a poor way to treat investors.

    1. when I googled ‘best selling iPhone 8’ I can only find statements from Consumer Research Partners and Counterpoint Research , analyst firms. Nothing from Apple.

But the analysts also show the X the best seller when Apple made the statement. It only increased in the mid of the year when most of the richer ‘early adopter’ types have bought and are waiting for the next model. The 8 sales were just for generic buyers who time the purchases not on release dates but on need. The 8 even beat out the Galaxy Plus.

What is interesting is that the 8 ACCORDING TO ANALYSTS EARLIER WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A FLOP.

      LIKE HERE:
      Yahoo Finance Oct 2017:

” A study from analysts at KeyBanc Capital Markets says Apple’s iPhone 7 models are actually outselling the iPhone 8. In a note to investors KeyBanc’s John Vinh said that “a meaningful portion of customers are buying iPhone 7 in lieu of the iPhone 8.” He attributed the buying decisions to the iPhone 8’s “lack of significant enhancements.”

Vinh’s comments were followed by a Reuters report on Thursday (Oct. 19) that cited an Economic Times report, claiming Apple has cut its iPhone 8 order plans by as much as 50 percent.”

      SEE THAT?
      CUT ORDERS OF 8 BY 50% !!

      can we trust analysts ?

    2. #fakenews alert. The best selling model in the holiday quarter and every quarter through q3 was the iphone x. It was stated on every earnings call they had. Maybe they are in the shitter but if you haven’t walked past an apple store in the past 2 months they are mobbed out the door almost every day. They haven’t missed on their guidance in like 5 years and i don’t think we will be seeing that this holiday quarter especially with amazon now selling the product directly. I know it pains the naysayers every quarter to be completely wrong and shown to be fools but it is what it is apple is the best run most profitable company in history… their biggest errors would be 99% of companies biggest successes.

  2. Joswiak’s statement is the first CONCRETE data since the stock crash began. The rest in the last few weeks from analysts, reporters is just conjecture.

To be sure the statement still leaves questions unanswered but as I said when this started only when Apple actually says something can we be sure it’s factual. Unlike pundits Apple is held to account by the SEC for any statements linked to finances, sales etc.

I note that Joswiak also didn’t hint of any reversal of guidance given for the quarter which is a big positive. (for those who don’t follow aapl stock, the guidance although below analysts fantasies still shows year over year growth).

    1. One data anecdote doesn’t make a trend. Joswiak neglects to say how low all other iphone sales are. Apple probed how high it could jack up prices and it found out. The discounts have already arrived for brand new models including the XR just to move stock.

Frankly I don’t give a damn. The X Whatever models, all of them, are too big and too expensive. They don’t do anything useful that an old 8 doesn’t do just as well.

      1. I used to agree with you but after using an X then upgrading to the XS Max – I have to say they are well worth way more than the 8. The new camera system on the XS Max is light years ahead..

      2. “How low all other iphones sales ‘Are’ ’” .. “Are” ‘ ? lol … ? If that’s not prejudiced and totally biased to the negative with zero factual information right out of the gate… then what is?
Why arent there discounts across the board 🤔

But yet… Of course you are right in your speculation and congecture and anyone believing otherwise is wrong. Right 😉

At the end in 2 months we will know how Apple did and what the revenue distibution was.

        The rest is FUD..

  3. Always remember… Rumours are carried by haters, spread by fools and accepted by idiots.

Just saw this post on FB, which seemed perfectly apt with regard to rumours from Apple’s supply chain and so called analysis.

  4. Rather fond of my iPhone Xs. Like my new iPad Pro, too. These platforms are based on serious chipsets. The XR shares the same silicon.

This generational leap is a game changer and consumers know it. Woe betide the analyst who is short AAPL in December.

  5. I‘ve seen all color together and yellow is definitively my favorit! It looks just great! It remembers me that yellow sony sport walkman!

I hope next year’s flagship iPhones to come in several colors too! 🤩

  6. People are never satisfied. The new iPhone Xr provides greater functionality for a lower cost than previous non-OLED iPhone models. That is a good thing.

If people want the very latest technology and even greater functionality, then then have to pony up the extra $250 to $350 and go for the iPhone Xs or Xs Max. Or, you can go the other way and get a brand new iPhone 7 or 8 for hundreds less. It is instructive to note the the iPhone 7 is still a tremendous phone and, now, an even greater value.

    1. “ the iPhone 7 is still a tremendous phone and, now, an even greater value.” Right, a four-year phone sold as new is value. Next you’re going to tell us a five-year old vastly underpowered Mac Pro is a great value. My two-year old upgraded SE is TWICE the value of the 7 and they killed it, simply unacceptable. But then again, Apple can do no wrong in your apologist ways…
