“Apple has confirmed plans to conduct more on-foot data collection for Apple Maps, going beyond the first efforts in San Francisco,” Roger Fingas reports for AppleInsider.
“Between Nov. 26 and Dec. 23, Apple’s pedestrian recon team will be operating in the California counties of Alameda, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Santa Cruz, the company said on its website,” Fingas reports. “So far the company hasn’t announced plans beyond the state.”
“On a broader scale the collection should be used to build out Apple’s first-party mapping data,” Fingas reports. “Plans to migrate to first-party maps were announced last June, and could help solve problems caused by the current dependence on a mish-mash of sources.”

My only issue with Apple Maps compared to Google Maps, Google has alternate routes show up during navigation saying it’s “similar time” or “2 minutes slower” etc. Once Apple comes out with that, boom, I’m all over it.
I’m pretty sure that’s been a feature for awhile now.
If I change my route, Apple Maps doesn’t update? Not sure if it’s due to locality or if Apple Maps doesn’t have that functionality yet?
I have no doubt Apple maps are improving in America, however in UK and Europe where i tried Apple Maps vs Google maps, very sadly Google maps are better. Biggest advantage Google maps have is street view, that is a god send. I wish Apple maps had street view, because i find that is something that lets down apple maps by not having street view

Another thing, if i am on my work PC, is there a way to access Apple Maps through the browser?
