New iPad Pro and Apple Pencil: 7 things nobody told you

“The new Apple iPad Pro is available for pre-order now and goes on sale on November 7,” David Phelan writes for Forbes. “But there was a lot of information to pick up in Apple’s keynote. Here are some of the coolest details, which you might have missed.”

“The Apple Pencil has a battery-saving feature,” Phelan writes. “The new, cute, Apple Pencil has sensors inside it – including motion sensors – so it knows when you pick it up and start using it. But when you put it down and it’s just lying on the table, say, it gets the message that you have no need of it right now… [and] it helpfully goes into a power-saving mode, ready and waiting for your next use.”

“USB-C is there for a reason,” Phelan writes. “Apple is clear that there was no choice. For the new iPad Pro to be able to do all the things it does, it needs USB-C. Benefits include being able to link the iPad Pro to an external monitor in the way that Lightning couldn’t manage. That’s why the entry-level iPad is sticking with Lightning because it can meet the demands of the tablet. And, therefore, it’s not wise to assume the next iPhone will follow suit. Apple doesn’t change these things lightly or until it’s absolutely warranted.”

Five more things you may have missed or not heard about more in the full article here.

  1. Surely and others have done it already with lesser innate power to exploit or e osystem relevance, potentially plugging a top end iPhone at least, to a monitor or/and keyboard would be a great asset for some and could fully exploit the A class processors which are in danger of becoming overkill for all but a few functions in the phones. I guess they as usual are scared it will cannibalise other products but if done properly it could surely actually market them. It could also develop familiarity and potential market impact amongst users of the undoubted idea within Apple for the introduction of the A series Mac concept which surely must arrive within a couple years.

    1. I don’t believe the A series Mac will happen. One big reason is Thunderbolt and Apple’s wide use of it in Macs. TB is Intel, and yes Apple helped start it, however Intel has patent. It is built into their chips. If Apple could have they would have put TB in the new iPad Pro instead of USB-C. I think what Apple will do is continue to put their own chips for special functions and use Intel as CPUs. They would also have to rewrite most of software and force others to do the same.

  2. This is going to be an IPad Pro and Pencil Christmas..

Love the thing!!! … and it is finally here! Post PC has Arrived 👊👊🙏
    But one more thing:
Please give us a better ios file/assett management.. that is one thing still holding it back from being a full blown pro powerhouse!
(Been calling for this for years …. iCloud drive is a very marginal solution)
