Apple’s iPhone Xs Max powerhouse embarrasses Google’s anemic Pixel 3 XL in speed tests and benchmarks

“The Pixel 3 phones started shipping to buyers last week, which means YouTubers have already started putting the phone through various tests, including the anticipated speed comparisons against Apple’s iPhone XS series. Sadly, things aren’t looking good for Google’s new phone if speed is what you’re looking for in an Android handset,” Chris Smith reports for BGR. “It’s not just that the Pixel 3 can’t beat Apple’s 2018 iPhones, but also that the new Pixel already seems dated when it comes to hardware… These phones are still running on off-the-shelf processors like Qualcomm’s Snapdragon series. The 10nm 845 chip inside the Pixel 3 is already ‘old’ considering 7nm chips are available, powering all three 2018 iPhone'”

“As one of the following speed tests shows, the phone isn’t doing a great job at keeping apps in memory, which means you’ll waste time waiting for apps to be reloaded again,” Smith reports. “YouTube channel EverythingApplePro compared the Pixel 3 XL against the iPhone XS Max in a bunch of speed tests and Apple came out the winner in most.”

“The video also contains a bunch of benchmarks, but it’s AppleInsider that offers us an even better benchmark comparison video,” Smith reports. “The following clip shows scores for the Pixel 3 XL and iPhone XS Max in plenty of tests, including Geekbench 4, AnTuTu, Octane 2.0, and GFXBench.”

  1. I tried a pixel 3 at Best Buy last week and the interface is very strange. That little white bar at the bottom, that “looks” like the white home bar in iOS? Well you can’t swipe up on it, you have to tap on it. Makes no sense. Their ‘gesture’ interface is just a software implementation of the old solid state hardware buttons. This is terrible stuff.

  2. I don’t think potential Pixel 3 owners care about those performance benchmarks. Pixel 3 owners will just love Google and pure stock Android OS. Besides, potential Pixel 3 owners are most interested in the camera’s AI magic. If you don’t like Oreos, does anyone want some Pie with that Pixel 3?

  3. Very few people really are about the benchmarks. Technophiles tend to forget they are a tiny, wee bit of the market and they are not who the manufacturers design for.

    1. “Technophiles.. are not who the manufacturers design for..”

That may be true. It is great when you take that nice new ‘car’ on the road, but don’t you hate when EVERY car passes you.. and then drives around you, over and over?

Specs can matter. I am sure when more real life tests of opening and closing apps become available, you will see how far Apple’s competition are in the rear view mirror.

  4. Dear cynic. That’s why we prefer Apple products. Freedom from spying and privacy/identity theft. Freedom from stolen Intellectual Property and designs that greedy Google CEOs and Samscum hurriedly rushed to market and used to wound the real creative genius, Mr. Steve Jobs.

    1. Let me correct what freedom means for you…

People have the right to be free from alleged spying ,or to take their chances. No one forcing one choice or the other. See?

  5. There are people deeply entrenched in the Google environment. For them, most are already using Android. Within the Android hardware world, the Pixel offers hardware quality similar to the iPhone. In other words, for many, the Pixel is the pinnacle of Android phones. That’s not a debate that I am qualified to partake in, but that is what hear from pundits that know that world. And there are many that insist that the Pixel camera, and computer-aided photography surpasses the iPhone’s, but not so much so that it becomes the sole factor in a phone purchase.
