Apple brings 70+ new emoji to iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac in upcoming software updates

More than 70 new emoji will be coming soon to iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac, including new characters with red hair, gray hair and curly hair, a new emoji for bald people, more emotive smiley faces and additional emoji representing animals, sports and food. The new emoji are available in today’s developer and public beta previews of iOS 12.1, and will be available in upcoming software updates for iOS, macOS and watchOS.

iOS 12.1 brings even more characters to the keyboard that better represent global users, including new emoji for moon cake, red gift envelope and nazar amulet.

Sports fans will celebrate the addition of new emoji for softball, frisbee and lacrosse, while outdoor adventurers will enjoy new characters for luggage, compass and a hiking boot to accompany the existing climbing emoji.

Beautifully designed characters for the llama, mosquito, swan and raccoon, join the kangaroo, lobster, parrot and peacock previewed on World Emoji Day, and bagel and salt join new food emoji for cupcake, leafy greens and mango.

Thousands of emoji are currently available on iOS, watchOS and macOS, including emotive smiley faces, gender-neutral characters, various clothing options, food types, animals, mythical creatures and more. New emoji characters are created based on the approved characters in Unicode 11.0. Apple is working with the Unicode Consortium to add more disability-themed emoji to the keyboard for Unicode 12.0, slated for release in 2019.

    1. I use them constantly – it’s fun. Bunny emoji for my woman, fox for me because, apparently, I’m foxy… and so on. But I’d rather see Apple ship more serious stuff on a regular basis.

  1. How about instead of emojis, animated emojis, and other crap like that, maybe they could fix some of the apps that work poorly? The podcast app, syncing with the mac, and general OS stability.

  2. Who gives an EFFING rip over emojis? This should be news on the walls of places like chucky cheese.

    My goodness, grow the eff up already.

    Maybe MDN should create a macdailynewskiddy.com page for this useless information.

    Hey Jony, can you explain why you replaced similar beautiful “Skeuomorphism” illustrations in iOS 7, created under Steve and Scott, with sterile lifeless flat icons that hurt our eyes to this day?
