Demand for Apple’s new iPhone Xs Max and Apple Watch Series 4 looks strong

“Over the past year… CEO Tim Cook noted that iPhone X was the most popular model throughout the product cycle,” Evan Niu writes for The Motley Fool. “That’s probably why the company kept the iPhone XS at the $999 price and positioned the iPhone XS Max even higher at $1,099, which will likely boost average selling prices (ASPs) over the next year.”

“Pre-orders for the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and Apple Watch Series 4 started today, and initial demand appears strong,” Niu writes. “Shipping estimates for the iPhone XS Max are already slipping into October for many configurations, notably including the 512 GB storage configuration that costs a whopping $1,449. iPhone XS shipping estimates are also getting pushed back, including for that model’s 512 GB configuration that costs $1,349. That means that Apple has already sold out of some of its launch inventory for its new flagship models.”

“The fact that shipping estimates are already being pushed back is a good indication that the $1,099-plus prices aren’t hampering demand much,” Niu writes. “Apple Watch Series 4 is also getting a price bump this year, now starting at $400 instead of $329… With shipping estimates for Apple Watch Series 4 similarly getting pushed into October already, even at the higher prices, demand also looks robust.”

  1. From what i gathered at launch till now..

In order of popularity and delivery push backs.

    Apple watch Gps
    Apple watch Nike all models
    Iphone xs max 512
    Iphone xs max 256
    Apple Watch GPS LTE
    Iphone xs max 64
    Iphone xs

  2. I think there have already been some analysts saying that demand for these new iPhones will be lackluster due to insufficient feature upgrades. I haven’t heard anything being said about about the new AppleWatch upgrade. I figure anyone could say that there isn’t enough new features to be worth upgrading to. I suppose that depends on what features a person is looking for.

Analysts like to paint with their wide brush when it comes to Apple. They usually say no iPhone is worth upgrading to each year. I’d rather wait to see how sales actually go before making any statement like that before product availability takes place. I simply figure people who have much older iPhones might make a move to a newer iPhone even if there isn’t a huge new feature set. It can happen.

  3. A lot of folks with iPhone X will sit this one out (myself included). However all of the iPhone Plus owners have been sitting on the sideline and many are ready to rock the new iPhone. Same thing with the older series Apple Watch owners. However the health features on the new watch are going to add a lot of new customers.

    1. Agreed. If you have an X and aren’t a gamer, there really isn’t nearly enough going on here to have it make economical sense. Great new product and they will sell bucket loads of the phones, just not to owners of the X.

Spot on with the watch. I bought a series 3 GPS+LTE last year and had zero hesitation to order a Series 4. I’ve already got a deal to see my Series 3 at a price much higher than any of the trade in companies are offering.

  4. I guess I’m the exception to the comments above. I’m a X owner, that was a 7S+ owner. I was comfortable with the 7S+ size so love the fact that the 6.5 is the same physical size as the 7+. I had my Max(I’m an ATT Next user so I’m just turning the X in and paying few more $$ a month for a year til the next one arrives) and my Series 4 ordered at 2:05 this morning. Will pass my Series 3 to my wife and her Series 2 to my son.

  5. Based on prior years demand looks light for the phones. Probably due to a lot of hold up for the XR. Previously demand was pushing into November and even beyond for the most popular line. To be able to still get it in launch week (25th sep) still showing is in heard of. I reckon Apple may be hitting get peak of what people will pay. I expect the XR will be the biggest seller.

  6. I originally ordered the Stainless Steel Gold Series 4 on Apple.com at Midnight on Friday and it gave me a shipping window of 9/28 -10/4 but then I went to Verizon’s site today and they had shipping times of 9/21 so I canceled my order with Apple and ordered with Verizon. W00t!
