“The 32 GB RAM and 8th-gen Intel CPU upgrades offer some significant performance improvements as incentives, but most of the complaints people had with the new generation laptops still hold true today, like the dropping of legacy IO ports in favor of going all in on Thunderbolt 3 USB-C,” Mayo reports. “The big question mark with the 2018 MacBook Pros is whether the keyboard issues have been addressed.”

I just bought one. It’s fast enough and the display is great.
I don’t need USB C or a Touch Bar.
I do need to plug in a keyboard, Apple display, and USB drives, none of which support USB C.
My wife has a new MacBook. It’s so slim and light. It’s really fast. It has a gorgeous display. But she can’t go anywhere without a huge USB C dongle, and can’t plug in two drives at the same time to copy photos from one to the other.

The future where the keyboards suck and tend to break down, where the battery life sucks and I get less than 3 hours of use when using my 2016 MacBook Pro as a Pro user running Logic X, where I can’t upgrade anything on like my old 2010 MacBook Pro where I was able to upgrade my Own ram and Own SSD…
Basically I hate the New Apple. It sucks. I miss the old Apple that I came to love from long ago…

This seems to leave a rather wide gap between the top MacBook and the base MacBook Pro. Given that school season is here, is a new MacBook or Air going to plug that gap?
Your guess is as good as anyone’s.
I suspect that both the 12″ MacBook and the antique 13″ MacBook Air will go bye-bye soon, to be replaced by a new ultraportable MacBook with 2 USB-C ports and a modest chip bump. The touchbar-free 13″ MacBook Pro is the only affordable full-featured laptop Apple sells. No wonder so many kids and entry level consumers have switched back to PCs.
Tell me how those kids at the border like being dragged kicking and screaming.

2015 MBP models are still available on the Clearance section of the Apple Store. Most would agree that was a better physical design than the 2016+ models (Magsafe, keyboard, legacy ports including Toslink and Ethernet are all highly desireable) but you’d be stuck with TB2 me missing out on the latest speed that Apple — F I N A L L Y — got around to implementing in its 2018 laptops. If Apple truly loved Mac Users, it would offer a 17″ MacBook Pro with all the bells and whistles that doesn’t require an external GPU and a bag full of dongles and adapters for working on the road.
Ain’t no Ethernet on the old 2015 15-inch model.
