iPhone is going to destroy every Android phone yet again with Apple’s A12 SoC

“The A11 Bionic processor that powers Apple’s iPhone X, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone 8 indeed outperforms every other smartphone that’s currently available. Each of Apple’s three flagship iPhones score over 4200 on GeekBench’s single-core test, while the top-performing Android phone only managed a score of 3400,” Zach Epstein writes for BGR. “Apple’s 2017 iPhones also crush the competition in the multi-core test, with scores reaching as high as nearly 10200. Meanwhile, only one Android phone has managed to break 9000 so far.”

“A new report from Bloomberg on Wednesday morning states that Apple’s chip fabrication partner Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. has begun mass production of the next-generation processors that will power Apple’s 2018 iPhone lineup,” Epstein writes. “Apple is expected to release three new iPhone models this coming September, including an iPhone X successor, an ‘iPhone X Plus’ with a larger OLED display, and a mid-range iPhone with an LCD screen sized between the two. All three new iPhone models should be powered by the same A12 processor that TSMC just began producing… The A12 will be based on a 7-nanometer process.”

Epstein writes, “All this adds up to Apple’s 2018 iPhone models turning out to be the most powerful and efficient smartphones the world has ever seen, and we’ll almost certainly see them crush every Android phone out there once again in performance and speed tests.”

MacDailyNews Take: More destruction looms!

With each passing year, and especially with iPhone X, it becomes increasingly clear – even to the Android settlers – that the competition has no chance of even remotely keeping up against Apple’s unmatched vertically integrated one-two punch of custom software and custom hardware. The Android to iPhone upgrade train just turned onto a long straightaway, engines stoked, primed to barrel away! — MacDailyNews, September 13, 2017

  1. Apple marches on……clearly AAPL stock is now DOOMED!!!
Bring on Tony Sack-a-nuttin and Colon Gillis and the rest of the “Apple is doomed” cabal that has worked so well for investors……

    1. Destroy: put an end to the existence of (something) by damaging or attacking it; defeat utterly; ruin. Synonyms: annihilate, wipe out, obliterate, wipe off the face of the earth, eliminate, eradicate, liquidate, finish off, erase.

      Yeah, sounds about right.

  2. No doubt Apple got an advantage in the processor dept, if only the Japanese companies could compete with Samsung for the OLED production and have some of the Apple pie

  3. I’m amazed at how wonderful my iPhone 8 Plus operates, even as I yearn to replace it with the iPhone X Plus. These things are more powerful than computers that were out just a few years ago.

    1. I read a Review a few months back testing a the latest Galaxy 9 against the iPhone and claimed in some real world tests it was faster. I expected to see the report mentioned on here where I presumed it would be shot down but it wasn’t mentioned here. This is the first reference on here to it I have seen. It claimed that bottlenecks in iOS were to blame which considering the spaghetti junction nature of Android again surprised me. Another thing Apple needs to sort it seems.

  4. Not only destroy every Android phone, but also destroy every Intel processor not named i7 or i9. I predict that there’s not an i3 processor that will be able to touch it’s benchmark numbers and MAAAAYBE a few high end i5’s will score a few percent higher. In case anyone’s keeping track, that’s a sizeable portion of the PC market that will be running on chips LESS powerful than what’s in your iPhone 🙂

    1. What if Apple has designed the latest A-series SoCs to support multi-SoC configurations? If you effectively gang two, or four, eight, or even more A-12 SoCs on a board, then how would that scale? The A-series SoCs provide superior performance/watt, so how far could this go in terms of massively parallel computing? For instance, a Mac Pro with 32, 64, or 128 A-12 SoCs?!

If Apple is not planning for this, then the company has truly lost its way.

      1. That is a concept I have been thinking about over the past two iterations of the chip. I have no knowledge however of how this might work or compare so I was hoping someone might raise the concept to at least be discussed.

        1. With GPUs being in the spotlight these days for heavy number crunching (crypto currencies), it’s probably those types that are more seriously being considered for massively parallel computing over CPUs.
