“Apple ran short on a very vital part of the Mid 2012 and Early 2013 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display for over a year,” Ed Hardy reports for Cult of Mac. “But it now reportedly has plenty of batteries for these models in stock once again.”
“For months, Apple had been forced to waive the fee on battery replacements on these older models because customers were having to wait so long for the part to become available,” Hardy reports. “But Apple reportedly notified Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers today it has a sufficient supply of batteries for the 15-inch MacBook Pro models from five years ago.”
Hardy reports, “Now that owners of the Mid 2012 and Early 2013 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro no longer have to wait for parts, Apple is again charging the $199 replacement cost.”

Good news for people who were affected by this battery shortage issue.
Hope the Appke employees do not mess up the battery replacement like they did with my iPhone 6 Plus. Apple had to provide me with a “new” iPhone 6 Plus.
NOT 1 for 1 replacement as I was happily using iOS 9 at the time. (No iPhone throtling software installed). My new iPhone has iOS 11.
Just another way Apple has disappointed me in recent years.
You an an unappreciative SOB, aren’t you. First of all, the throttling only came into play for older batteries. You were not affected at all. Second, you can update to a newer version of iOS that enables you to turn off the throttling (that is not affecting the performance of your replacement iPhone).
People can find a way to complain about anything. People like you need to switch to Android. You do not deserve to use Apple products.
My 2013 MBP Retina had a dead battery from real use, The keyboard was totally worn, with keys with holes in them. The laminate on the screen was pealing they said, and the screen died,
I’d have paid for all the repairs,
They did it all for free.
Just another way Apple has impressed me in recent years!
I replaced the battery in my Early 2011 MacBook Pro myself with one from OWC. I hope this laptop lasts forever.
