“Facebook’s executives have spent much of the past week dealing with the fallout of reports claiming millions of its users had their data harvested from a quiz app without their consent,” Mike Murphy writes for Quartz. “CEO and Founder Mark Zuckerberg issued a long non-apology on Facebook, and appeared on cable news to explain how the company was responding to what he called ‘a breach of trust between Facebook and the people who share their data with us and expect us to protect it.'”
“Zuckerberg should have heeded what he heard from the late Steve Jobs eight years ago,” Murphy writes. “Then, when the social network had a measly half-billion users, Jobs spoke at The Wall Street Journal’s AllThingsD conference, where Zuckerberg was in the audience, waiting to be interviewed himself, and described what privacy meant.”

Apple should buy Snap and come up with a social network made by a company that we can actually trust.
But why????? Social networks are for people with poor social skills and narcissistic liberals. If you want to know more about friend and family go see them or call. The whole idea of sitting in your house and thumbing thru other folks or pure strangers photo albums is such a strange phenomenon. I mean would you walk into a strangers house and look thru their album? Likely not. Be happier with your life…abandon all socials and become social.

There’s nothing really to figure out. Apple has tried secure social networks before and people always complain that Apple made it too hard for them to give all their personal info out to everyone. Apple has found that you can’t mix Social Networks and security and they’ve given up on it.
Since the purpose of a successful Social Network is to provide personal information about you (and the people you know) to random other people, and that is NOT something that an Apple Social network would make easier due to their focus on security, it’s just not going to happen.
I see that Jack Nicholson heard about this Facebook kerfuffle. When he met Zuckerberg last year, Jack said, “I warned him.”
