“It’s not just that he’s silent in public,” Spencer Ackerman reports for The Daily Beast. “Facebook CEO and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg declined to face his employees on Tuesday to explain the company’s role in a widening international scandal over the 2016 election.”
“It was the first the company held to brief and reassure employees after, ahead of damaging news reports, Facebook abruptly suspended Cambridge Analytica,” Ackerman reports. “But Zuckerberg himself wasn’t there, The Daily Beast has learned. Instead, the session was conducted by a Facebook attorney, Paul Grewal, according to a source familiar with the meeting… Nor, The Daily Beast has learned, did chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg attend the internal town hall.”
“‘Mark, Sheryl and their teams are working around the clock to get all the facts and take the appropriate action moving forward, because they understand the seriousness of this issue. The entire company is outraged we were deceived. We are committed to vigorously enforcing our policies to protect people’s information and will take whatever steps are required to see that this happens,’ a Facebook spokesperson told The Daily Beast,” Ackerman reports.

Mark & Sheryl are ALSO going to have to face the facts that the Obama team had apparently unrestricted access to FB data which various Democrat congressmen and others have referred to in the press along with the documented fact of the large # of visits to the White House by the former Google CEO, Eric Schmidt.

No company EVER gives anything away for free unless there is something they want from the customer using their product, service, app etc.
Facebook is a free platform – why? Because it wants all your personal data to sell and make billions from large companies who need that data.
Data is the currency of the internet, and if people don’t realise this then they need to wake up!
Google does the same, Amazon does and everyone else (Apple not so much as it only uses data to produce better services and products)

Pete, your note on “wake up” appears to be what has started to happen even before the Cambridge story as FB’s quarterly users dropped for the first time.
I’m also aware that psychologists have noted the disproportionate use of FB by users who become obsessive and exaggerate in what they post. It is like those users want to enter a fantasy world they imagine will make themselves liked.

Well, it only took about ten minutes to see that the far right still pretty much dominates this forum with political rants. Same story lines, too…if you think that what we are doing is bad, the Democrats did it first or worse. That is a great defense in grade school, but no so much in a court of law.
Have fun with your retroactive investigations. Why don’t you go all the way back to the 2000s and take another look at your boy “W”. Or even farther to Whitewater or Iran-Contra. The past behavior of others is not a defense or justification for doing something wrong or illegal. You have to own up to your own decisions and your own behavior. Blanket denials tend to have a very short effective life, and lies tend to stack up.
