“Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC) kicks off with its traditional keynote on June 4, 2018,” Rene Ritchie writes for iMore. “It’s returning to San Jose, just a short distance from Apple’s Cupertino home and, unless Apple surprises us with a spring event again, it could just be Apple’s first keynote of the year.”
“Typically, WWDC is a software-and-services-only type of affair, with new operating systems and features, but nothing in the way of new hardware. Typically, but not always,” Ritchie writes. “Last year was the biggest exception to that rule in recent memory, with updated, Kabe Lake versions of the MacBook, MacBook Pro, and iMac, an A10 version of the iPad Pro, and the all-new 10.5-inch iPad Pro.”
“So, it’s safe to say anything and potentially everything is possible at WWDC 2018,” Ritchie writes. “Major new OS updates are as close to sure things as we get going into WWDC. There’ll be a new version of iOS. A new version of macOS. And new versions of tvOS and watchOS as well… Apple doesn’t showcase new hardware at WWDC. Except when it does. With rumors hot and heavy, this could be one of the years it does.”

I thInk every new Mac Pro has been announced first at WWDC so we should see a preview at least of the modular 2018 Mac Pro. Apple owes this bigtime to their pro base who is way past the statute of their patience limitations. Not saying a word about it will be tantamount to further Apple FAIL. I( could see many more switching at that point in disgust if so.)

However, it would not surprise me if they *preview* the new, modular Mac Pro at WWDC with an available order date of late November and a shipping date of late December 2018. While that would be a huge disappointment, it would at least set expectations even if shipments don’t catch up with demand until February 2019 or later.
My biggest concerns are that it will be an evolution from the 2012 Mac Pro (which in and of itself was an evolution from the 2009/2010 Mac Pro), and then costs between $7,000 and $20,000 in “standard” configurations. Yet, if it’s another trash can Mac Pro, Apple might as well not bother.
I want an X Plus. 8 is yesterday’s tech- the X is too narrow, not wide or big enough for fat fingers and aging eyes. Stick at 6 Plus.

Knowing Apple nowadays it’ll be:
• Limited edition Apple Watch wristbands
• Another video of the AirPower pad, touting a release for Christmas (ie early 2019)
• Product [red] HomePod and AirPods

Apple actually has zero to do with new emoji. All Apple does is keep up with what’s announced as new to the emoji standard each year. We’ve been over this fact quite a few times here at MDN. Please do keep up.

I) Apple fulfills its warning about 64-bit everything on macOS. It’s going to mean a lot of good-old-apps are gonna die. There are rumors of maybe/kindof/sortof a 32-bit emulator. But only an emulator, not a virtualization. (And yeah, we’ll still able to use commercial virtualization systems to run older versions of macOS and 32-bit apps).
II) APFS, Apple File System, will actually be finished. The base standard will at long bloody last be set in stone. All Fusion drives will run it.
III) macOS 10.13.x High Sierra will be tossed onto the heap of Apple FAILures, an oddity to be forgotten, with malice. 10.14 will be the too-long awaited ‘it just works’, ‘no more bugs’, ‘we’re not kidding this time’ prime version of macOS to rival the joyousness of OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. We can dream!
IV) XCode will go 100% Swift coding. No leftover Objective C, C, C++ crap allowed. The developer world will cheer, except for the geezerly who won’t want to learn something new and better.
V) Siri will get the evolutionary overhaul we’ve been shouting for.
VI) Apple will finally put pedestrian warning stickers on the Mothership’s multitude of glass walls/windows.
VII) A top to bottom Apple reorganization (aka breathing) will be announced. All Apple users and developers will cheer. Welcome to the new, green wood! So long dead wood. – It could happen!
IX) It will be announced and chiseled into stone that Apple will return to NEVER pre-announcing anything, ever. We get what we get when it’s ready and available.
X) Apple will officially denounce the spirit-of-the-age BizTard practice of Short-Term Thinking, Long-Term Disaster, which has been the single greatest cause of economic failure around the world. It will instead return to REAL Steve Jobs business values and tell everyone who doesn’t like it to go lick a rock face in the Antarctic.
Quite the wish list, Derek. If even five out of those ten come true, I’ll be amazed.
