iPhone X accounted for 1 in 5 iPhones sold by Apple in America last quarter

“Every one in five smartphones sold by Apple in the United States in the fourth quarter of 2017 was an iPhone X, according to data shared with MacRumors by research firm Consumer Intelligence Research Partners,” Joe Rossignol reports for MacRumors. “Below is the exact model-by-model breakdown of Apple’s total iPhone sales between October and December, based on the firm’s survey of 500 consumers who purchased an iPhone in the United States during that period.”

• iPhone 8: 24 percent
• iPhone 8 Plus: 17 percent
• iPhone X: 20 percent
• All other iPhone models: 39 percent

“Apple doesn’t disclose iPhone sales on a model-by-model basis, so this survey only serves as a rough estimate,” Rossignol reports. “However, analysts and investors will be listening for any clues about the sales mix during Apple’s next quarterly earnings call on February 1.”

MacDailyNews Take: If these survey percentages are anywhere near correct, the iPhone 8/Plus pricing and promotions did their jobs well!

Let’s allow the entire iPhone family to be on the market, around the world, for some time before we judge the iPhone mix… Some people will (think they) want the Home button and Touch ID. Many millions worldwide will be swayed by iPhone 8/Plus’ lower prices and promotions relative to iPhone X. Apple is usually close to dead on with pricing. Promotions are another variable. This one is tricky, but we wouldn’t bet against Apple on this.MacDailyNews, September 26, 2017

    1. Yep. Despite being pumped constantly on this site, iPhone 8 sales trounced the X.

The disconnect between illusion and reality is especially prevalent among groups that base their opinions on hearsay rather than objective facts that they share for all to see.

Regardless of the topic (sports, religion, tech company, politics) — whenever you hear a blowhard try to paint a picture where his side is 100% correct and the other side is entirely wrong, you know you are dealing with a brainwashed propagandist. Tune in to people who admit that as humans, we all make mistakes, and with new data and collaborative work, errors will be corrected.

Apple is a fact driven company in general, so while the X may be the direction they would like to go, it will be years before the mainstream will be willing to pay top dollar for faceid and the ugly notch which is noticed by the majority of people who bought iPhones last quarter. I will now count the seconds before juvenile jerks attack me for stating obvious reality based in facts.

  1. The X is no doubt a good phone.
But average (or intelligent) people do not want to be hyped into buying anything, particularly in the market sentiment that Apple has always been overpricing.
I for one, would be willing to pay high price for good products. But when Apple worried too much about its overpricing, and hyped too much, people began to develop “Really?” sentiment and got repelled. If Apple did not overhyped the X, I believe it might have sold a bit better.

    1. I don’t understand the talk about hype. I wasn’t hyped into buying anything. I had the 7. Touch ID never worked well for me. The X has a much better camera, better, larger OLED screen, wireless charging, selfie cam portrait mode. The new UI is very cool for app switching and the phone all in all is a solid upgrade…If you don’t want it keep your phone or buy an 8. But theres no need to insult people who are enjoying a fine Apple product (this is an apple fan site, remember?)

      1. I have the 8.
I said the X is a good phone.
        I am not insulting people.
I am not too comfortable with what I consider the Apple’s hyping for over priced phone. I you did not think Apple was hyping the market, we just have different opinion, and I always respect other people’s opinion.
Now this Ming-chi Kuo guy is saying that Apple is dropping the current X altogether, and going to come up with entirely new form factors, i.e., no more X as we know it today. So there.

        1. “But average (or intelligent) people do not want to be hyped into buying anything…” OK if its not insulting, it’s condescending. One man’s “hyping” is another man’s aggressive advertising. If Apple doesn’t advertise enough, people bitch about that too. Who gives a s**t about Ming-chi leaks? Apple may change the iPhone X in the next year? Stop the press! Well Kent, I hope the the Apple iPhone X v2 delights you in the future!

        2. Hahaha, calm down. If you read my post carefully, everything is about (and against) Apple. Never thought anyone would react like you are. I am in fact not too happy about the way Apple is doing in the last few years, the X or not. A long story….

        3. Looks like the news has changed.. See todays story: “Apple shipped 29 million iPhone X units in Q4 2017. This made it the world’s best-selling smartphone model over the holiday season”.
I’m very calm- just don’t understand why there is so much hate against the X while other phones are still offered.
