“Starting off the new year by introducing its latest custom smartphone processor, Samsung has revealed some of what we might expect from its next Galaxy S flagship,” Vlad Savov reports for The Verge. “In among the usual claims of improved performance is an intriguing tease of using neural networks and deep learning for more sophisticated face detection and object identification in images.”

“The company identifies ‘realistic face-tracking filters as well as stronger security when unlocking a device with one’s face’ as the major advantages,” Savov reports, “which will be familiar to most people as headline iPhone X features: animoji and Face ID.”

“The Exynos 9 Series 9810, to give it its full title, is almost certain to figure at the heart of the upcoming Galaxy S9,” Savov reports. “The chip will also have a separate secure processing unit for handling sensitive personal and biometric data (such as facial, iris, and fingerprint scans).”

Well, if I want Face ID in my washer, I know where to look. Get it? Where to look.
I’m ready for SamSplode round 2, as long as only the poorly choosing, hapless and explosively black-faced owners get their foolhardy rich reward.
When you buy a Korean knock off you might end up with something other than what you expected.
Dishwasher maker? They can’t even make a good dishwasher! They only last 4 or 5 years before the repairs start!
Are the Samsung dishwashers exploding and catching fire like their cellphones and dryers?

Samsung’s 3D facial recognition will get high praise from the tech industry. All of their flagship smartphones will be loaded with tons of features and the tech-critics will be happy as they claim Samsung is far more innovative than Apple. There will be the typical, “Apple has lost its mojo” meme and Apple’s share price will take another hit.
Apple won’t compete with Samsung on a feature for feature basis and Wall Street will believe Apple has lost any advantage it ever had in the smartphone industry. Apple will continue to be the lowest valued major tech stock. I’m prepared for all of it. The most aggressive companies always get the highest praise and Apple appears to be the least aggressive tech company around.
While an opinion may be folly, it’s sad to see censorship happening over pointing out real facts of a changing headline.
I guess MDN wants to hide the fact that it has changed the headline (a familiar tactic here) so that it points out a dishwater maker while all the time there is no comment about it in the real article.
The fear is so telling when the censors drop by.
