Apple co-founder Woz: iPhone X is the first iPhone I won’t buy on ‘day one’

“Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak said he’s not in a hurry to buy the next iPhone — even though he usually rushes out to upgrade on opening day,” Deirdre Bosa and Anita Balakrishnan report for CNBC. “‘I’d rather wait and watch that one. I’m happy with my iPhone 8 — which is the same as the iPhone 7, which is the same as the iPhone 6, to me,” Wozniak said, speaking from the sidelines of the Money 20/20 conference. “For some reason, the iPhone X is going to be the first iPhone I didn’t — on day one — upgrade to. But my wife will, so I’ll be close enough to see it.'”

MacDailyNews Take: Leave it to Woz to not want to rush to get the very best iPhone Apple’s ever made!

“Wozniak also said he was skeptical that the Face ID feature would work the way it is supposed to,” Bosa and Balakrishnan report. “Wozniak isn’t the only onlooker who’s uncertain about the new handset. Because the iPhone 8 and the iPhone X were not released at the same time this year, some analysts have struggled to get a handle on how well the phones will sell.”

MacDailyNews Take: Good, that’s one more unit for all of us to fight over on preorder day!

And some analysts struggle to get a handle on their… uh… coffee cups, much less Apple.

    1. Lol. It doesn’t work that way. It only takes 3 images..from a regular camera..to make a 3D profile..if you are in a public place, they can do this legally. Don’t need your phone for that.

    1. Same here. Face ID is just not a compelling feature to me, I’ll be curious to see how that all plays out long term, it’s one of Apple’s rare solutions in search of a problem IMHO. While I am sure the camera is spectacular, my iPhone already isn’t my ‘main’ camera. I can already take advantage of all of the other features of iOS 11. So I guess going by this thread there will be at least FOUR more copies available. 😉

        1. In a few months these girls will be peeing their panties wanting to get an iPhone X. And they probably won’t admit the whiney statements they made about the X.

        2. Wouldn’t you still be unable to unlock your phone with FaceID since from other articles you not only have to look at it but swipe as well? I suppose you could wear special capacitive gloves in that case though.

  1. Like I said the last time Woz raised his ugly face to call Steve names (now that he is long dead of course), Woz did nothing amazing. He was one of MANY “homebrew club computer enthusiasts”. His little circuits would not have seen the light of day had it not been for Steve. He would have been a nobody. The proof is he HAS been a “nobody” ever since Steve refused to have anything more to do with him. That was right about the time Steve left Apple till now. I predict, he will continue to be a nobody from now on till he drops dead.

Another piece of proof is that Woz was the engineer during the demise of Apple. Remember, they were days away from going bankrupt. Good one Woz, you bozo!

Let’s agree that it’s the very NEWEST iPhone Apple’s ever made. Shouldn’t we wait for the pudding to make value judgments, and not take Apple’s word for it? Particularly in light of their recent track record vis-a-vis quality?

  3. This may be the best iPhone ever made, but Apple’s track record introducing flaws into minor upgrades suggests that one should probably wait until such time as all (if any) issues have been corrected in the iPhone X. They can almost never introduce a new product without WiFi issues and other bugs.

The X has a lot of new stuff and thus a lot of room for Apple to screw up. Not to mention the weird stuff like devices for one carrier being faster than those for another.

    I’d wait and find out.

  4. I’m now a little in the same boat. Not sure I want face ID over touch ID. I want to see/hear if its as fast as or better/worse than touch ID as many folks are discussing and wondering.
Touch ID is so fast on my 6S. I ‘m looking forward to hear everyone’s experiences!
