“Though the cameras in Apple’s latest iPhones boast the same megapixel count as last year’s models,” AppleInsider writes, “the new devices sport greatly improved internal components, from ‘deeper’ pixels to an upgraded image signal processor.”
Apple’s A11 Bionic chip includes a new image processor which supports computational photography functions including lighting estimation, wide color capture, and advanced pixel processing.

I would have thought that the majority of people upgrading would be on a two year cycle and thus upgrading from a 6s plus. Surely it’s as good to compare with that as well?
I have a 7 (not Plus) and will keep my Leicas for serious photography.
There will always be a market for high end cameras, in part because of their interchangeable lenses and larger sensors. There will also be a market for some smaller pocket sized cameras because of features such as the range of optical zooms that Apple hasn’t (yet matched). The the iPhone camera has that really no other camera can practically offer is that it is with you all the time, and available whenever you see something worth preserving. It has been demonstrated over and over again that the photographer is the main factor determining the quality of the photograph. In certain situations, the more “serious” cameras do allow the capture of a greater range of images than would be possible with any cellphone camera.
