RIP in the Great Wide Open…
A thoroughly amazing artist. ‘Breakdown’ is in my top ten all time amazing songs, I just love it.
Rest In Peace Tom.
Way too soon…
they’re off jamming together somewhere….
Tom Petty made a lot of good music, but I most appreciate the band. The Heartbreakers were the real deal and the reason anyone knows Petty today.
Sad part is that Petty’s early success led him to a lifestyle that has destroyed thousands of talented artists. Cocaine, heroin, opiates and cigarettes have a nasty way of shortening ones life. Amazing how many people chose to live that lifestyle.
a uniquely gifted musician.
“You can stand me up at the gates of hell
But I won’t back down.”
One amazing musician that I have loved for many years…
I even lived in Reseda….God Speed Tom! You will be missed by many!
And yet somehow Keith Richards wakes up to a new day.
I read a recent interview where he said the tour that just finished in LA would probably be the last large scale tour. He had a granddaughter and wanted to spend time with her- that is exactly how he put it.
We lost a great talent, she lost her Grandpa.
I listened to that backstage interview last week right after he finished his 40th Anniversary Tour and was thinking back to a couple of years ago when he played Little Rock.
No kneeling to the flag or demands to salute it, just a straight up great rock-n-roll show like God intended and the kind I remember from my youth.
That just leave two of the Brothers Willbury’s left. How time flies…..
He has a good embalmer.
For those not old enough to remember when MTV played Music, this is kinda how Mr Petty brought the goods to America.
In the all-star cast of “Tribute To George,” Petty does a cover of “Taxman” that is sublime…serious-ass rock and roll.
what a shitty week.
This is a timeless song. Listen to the lyrics in these strange and hard times for middle America.
Tom Petty “passes” what? Gas? His Geometry final? DIED. He died. Why can’t we rid ourselves of that tired Victorianism designed to avoid the truth and just used the word DIED?
How ’bout you take a “dirt nap.” You like that euphemism better?
I was a teen in the 80s, he was simply awesome and original. Seriously a loss but we are lucky to have had him.
