On Wednesday, “a report from Bloomberg offered a bit more information on the iPhone 8’s software interface, saying that the device will adopt the new dock interface used by the iPad on iOS 11,” Chance Miller reports for 9to5Mac. “Now, new renders and a video show just what that could look like.”
“A new video (below) from developer Guilherme Rambo shows what that dock would look like and how the gestures could be used for multitasking, as well as the new multitasking interface,” Miller reports. “The dock showcased here shows the same recently opened section on the right side as the iPad, which static apps located on the left.”
“Separately, a render from Olivier Charavel showcases the new dock as well as the new thin tab at the bottom of the interface. This tab will let users quickly access the multitasking interface,” Miller reports. “Finally, new renders from designer Maksim Petriv further show how applications will look on the iPhone 8. With the notch cutout along the top, apps will conform around that and the updated status bar.”

As MDN say, hows it going to work in Landscape, plus what about all the other icons and info that are currently displayed there such as network name, bluetooth, alarm, location indicator, etc?

Think about it…
The Ears can work in landscape… the metadata in the ears can simply turn where icons and text change to make sense in that orientation. For instance, they may reduce text labls, turn icons so they continue to oriented properly, etc.
I would revel in all this info being wrong, with the end result a total surprise. Possible?
I still think the background pixels in the ears will be dark.
The tyranny of a small screen and the complexity of typing anything on the virtual keyboard make using my iPhone a pain – I use it as a last resort.
Last time I travelled i left my Macbook and iPad behind – relying only on my iPhone 6. I make lots of mistakes typing on the iPhone – and it is incredibly cumbersome when you need to use a mix of alpha and numeric, and worse if you need special characters: Just type a product code and a price in Euros and you will understand… I have Spanish and Australian English keyboards and I am always inadvertently changing it to the wrong one – which can result in hilarious spellcheck outcomes, but lots of extra keystrokes to fix them…
Safari has issues as well – many sites just don’t work properly on Safari on iOS – and not always on Safari for Mac. Deleting cookies on iOS remains a problem – eBay appears to be impossible to delete in my iOS devices.
Smartphone sales growth is almost nonexistent – perhaps we are close to the end of what a smartphone can do. Apple are expecting big numbers for iPhone 8 – I hope they are correct, but I would expect a slump next year – not even Apple can defy gravity, and the iPhone is already so good that many users are keeping their iPhones longer.
I started with the 3G and sold it on eBay when I bought the 6. I won’t be upgrading to the 8, nor the 9 or 10 or 11.
