“To date, the iPhone 6 is still responsible for the biggest iPhone upgrade cycle in history,” Yoni Heisler writes for BGR. “And with good reason, the iPhone 6 marked the first time Apple delved into the world of larger-screened iPhones, at long last giving users with a preference for larger screens a compelling reason to upgrade.”
“What’s more,” Heisler writes, “Apple in 2014 didn’t just release one new device; rather, it released two distinct iPhone models, the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and the gargantuan 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus.”
MacDailyNews Take: Even further, Apple was a good two years late with properly-sized phones making for an unprecedented level of pent-up demand.
“Looking ahead to Apple’s 2017 phone lineup, there’s a very good chance that the upgrade cycle Apple enjoyed in 2014 will not only be matched, but may very well be surpassed later this year once Apple rolls out the highly anticipated iPhone 8,” Heisler writes. “In many ways, Apple’s iPhone 8 — which may very well be called the iPhone Edition — is the iPhone [for which] we’ve all been waiting… According to a number of credible sources, Apple’s flagship 2017 iPhone will incorporate a curved OLED display with minimal bezels on both the top and bottom of the device. In turn, the iPhone 8 will likely feature an iPhone 7 Plus sized screen in an iPhone 7 sized form factor.”

MacDailyNews Take: Beating the iPhone 6/Plus frenzy will be difficult, but eminently doable as the iPhone install base has grown even larger since 2014. The only question is, as always, can Apple make enough?

I can’t wait for this. Yeah, a new Mac would be iDeal (see what I did there?) but there is always room for improvement for new iPhones.

I tend to agree with your skepticism here.
While most rumors are claiming an even larger 5.8″ screen on an iphone7 (no plus) sized device, the bottom of the screen will be taken up with some control options. The rumors are also promising elimination of side bezels to allow for greater screen size.
I believe the 5.8″ screen they’re talking about in those rumors will have a different aspect ratio and I doubt that the WIDTH of the plus screen will be able to fit in such a device.
Hope I’m wrong.

There’s going to be a lot foolish “analysts” or rather bs guessers this time come September.
Make up isht to manipulate stocks lol. But great! What are they going to do once their made up fantasy doesn’t pan out? They know it’s in the pipeline. What are they going to do? Not be bullish on a sure thing for next years 8?
In any case, Apple and and Apple shareholders win. It just lengthens the “buy” foaming at the mouth for another year.
Not that this years 7s is not going to be awesome as always.
The iPhone has become a mature platform and the useful differences between iterations is becoming less significant. Factor in the sunset of subsidies. Factor in the economic changes downstream from the Fed finally raising interest rates.
It would take some blockbuster feature set to get many to upgrade early. I myself upgrade every other cycle and do not see anything to make me trade in my current phone.
I would much rather Apple work harder on the apps we all use- Apple Music is a mess, for example.
Maybe it’s just me, but if the killer feature of the iPhone 8 is a bigger screen, that’s not a reason for me to upgrade. My iPhone 6, with a working NFC chip, is doing just fine. You need to give me something impressive before I jump to the new product.
I went from the 3G to the 6. I won’t move again until the 6 stops working. Oh and I sold the 3G on eBay!
