“Last week Patently Apple posted a report titled ‘The Chinese Seem Eager to Open Plants in the US instead of Whining like some in Silicon Valley,'” Jack Purcher reports for Patently Apple. “Today more blockbuster news came to light about new jobs coming to the U.S.”
Masayoshi Son, the founder and CEO of “SoftBank, one of the largest Japanese companies who owns Sprint, ARM, the technology that goes into every iOS device and many other high profile companies,” Purcher reports, “met with President-elect Donald Trump today and announced that he’ll be investing $50 billion dollars in the U.S. that will create 50,000 new tech jobs.”
“What was interesting, if not a bit of a buzz, was the paperwork from Trump’s meeting with SoftBank also featured the logo of Foxconn, also known as Hon Hai, a supplier for Apple’s iPhones,” Purcher reports. “If Foxconn was on the paperwork discussed with Trump, it’s no accident. Perhaps the preliminary groundwork that Apple’s CEO did back in June about an iPhone plant in the U.S. with Foxconn is actually on the drawing board. That would be a mind blowing development and a huge win for President-Elect Trump and American workers.”

The USA is a damn large ship to maneuver. It takes time to change course. It takes years, even decades, for public policies to have their effect. Bush II plunged the USA into two foreign wars and it took 6 years before the economic impact was even felt — perhaps you remember the market crash of 2008, which was caused by bipartisan stupidity and deepened by irresponsible republican refusal to contain spending or provide banking oversight. I’m sure you have already soaked up the partisan narrative that paints your party as blameless, but the crash came in the 8th year of your party’s administration. George W. Bush owned it, then slunk off and did nothing whatsoever to clean up the mess other than let Paulson go around asking for corporate welfare.
The first year or two of any administration is all talk and study, getting any major legistlation or policy implemented takes that long even with a cooperative congress. For the past 6 years, congress has intentionally refused to do their jobs. They have stopped government from functioning. Despite this, the USA has seen steady growth, the markets are all stable, coprorations are flush with cash, and banks are richer than ever. The USA is now in better fiscal shape than any other major economy, period. That’s prettyh impressive results for a president who you claim is a spendaholic ineffective leader.
I’ll tell you who the ineffective cronies are. Asswipe McConnell in the senate refused to even hold hearings of the Supreme Court nominee — a judge lauded by both conservatives and liberals with impeccable credentials and enormous respect in law communities — because today partisan politics is more important than functioning national government. This is exactly the kind of behavior that puts the USA in neutral while emerging nations catch up. YOUR PARTY is the obstruction that halted progress in the past 6 years. Despite a majority in both houses, the republicans haven’t bothered to propose replacement healthcare legislation, nor tax reform, nor deficit fixes, nor economic measures of any kind. All they have done is rile up their funders with partisan political rhetoric. I don’t expect them to change in 2017 either. Partisans tend to look to their own perks and incomes before bothering to think about doing actual work for you.
It remains to be seen who from your party will have the sanity to rein Trump back in to reality when he discovers that the president doesn’t actually make the rules or the budgets. That’s the responsibility of the legislature. The uselss republican legislature that has done nothing for 6 years.
Could conversations between Cook and Trump lead to making iPhones in the USA a reality? It will be an intersting four years.

Judicial Watch announced today that it obtained records from the U.S. Secret Service revealing that its travel expenses for the First Family’s 2015 Hawaiian vacation cost taxpayers $1.2 million, which bring the total cost of the vacation trip to at least $4.8 million. This was the Obamas’ eighth Hawaiian family vacation. The trip has become an annual event for the Obamas. To date, Obama’s and his family’s travel expenses total at least $85,029,819.
The records obtained by Judicial Watch for Obama’s Secret Service travel to Hawaii reveal the following expenses totaling $1,234,316.67:
* Hotel and lodging costs totaled $1,000,458.63
* The Secret Service spent $165,893.88 on car rentals.
* Air and rail expenses totaled $67,964.16.
Although the vacation officially lasted from December 18, 2015, to January 3, 2016, the Secret Service rented several Kailua homes for 19 nights, starting from December 16. The total for the rentals, located near the Marine Corps base at Kaneohe Bay was $245,993.12. According to bills obtained by Judicial Watch through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), the Secret Service also paid for rooms at the Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki and Golf Club. The Secret Service also reserved rooms at the Moana Surfrider resort on Waikiki Beach, and the Ala Moana Hotel, which cost a total of $40,249.48 and $671,895.99, respectively.
The Secret Service rented cars from Avis, Alamo, and Hertz – 103 cars for the two-week vacation, totaling $165,893.88 in taxpayer money.
Reportedly, the Obamas stayed at the Hale Reena Estate, which “rents for anywhere between $5,000 to $10,000 a night, depending on the season.”
According to other news sources, the Obamas dined out frequently (and were guarded) at Hawaii’s finest restaurants:
* On Sunday, December 20, the Obamas had dinner at Morimoto, a celebrity chef-owned Asian-fusion restaurant,
* On Christmas Eve, they dined at MW Restaurant in Honolulu,
* On December 27, the first family took their dinner at “one of Hawaii’s finest restaurants,” Hoku’s at the Kahala Hotel and Resort,
* The next day, the Obamas dined at Alan Wong’s with friends,
* And on New Year’s Day, the Obamas dined at Halekulani, billed as one of the “top restaurants on Oahu.”
* The president played seven rounds of golf, went hiking and snorkeling.
Judicial Watch filed a FOIA request for these documents in January 2016. The records were released in response to a FOIA lawsuit filed on May 6, 2016, (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of Homeland Security (No. 1:16-cv-00863)). The lawsuit was filed after the Secret Service ignored a series of separate FOIA requests for costs associated with the president’s travel.
“The Secret Service and the Air Force are being abused by unnecessary travel,” said Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton. “Unnecessary presidential travel for fundraising and luxury vacations on the taxpayers’ dime would be a good target for reform for the incoming Trump administration.”

#1. You Lie. Many of those “vacations” you cite for Bush were actually spent working out of the Western White House. They were not “vacations” at all at his Texas ranch. The costs there were significantly lower, the Secret Service source noted, because the Secret Service was dealing with one location: “They weren’t getting hotel rooms, moving multiple aircraft, fleets of cars. It was predictable, constrained. It was repetitive.”

In December, we never left Washington, D.C., until the day after Christmas. Never. Mr. Bush and his wife, Laura, would always depart the White House a few days before the holiday and hunker down at Camp David, the presidential retreat in Maryland. After a few years, I asked a low-level White House staffer why.
I still remember what she said: “So all of us can be with our families on Christmas.”
Who was “us”? Hundreds and hundreds of people, that’s who. Sure, the reporters who covered the president, but also dozens and dozens on his staff, 100 Secret Service agents, maybe more, and all of those city cops required whenever the president’s on the move in D.C.
For me, that one-day delay was huge. My kids were 6 and 8 years old when Mr. Bush took office. When he went home to Prairie Chapel that last time in 2009, my girl was driving, the boy was 6 foot 1. But in the meantime, I was home for eight Christmas mornings, playing Santa, stoking the fire, mixing up hot chocolates.
That was President Bush.
Also during Bush’s presidency, the press plane was available for family members at the low rate of $100 per member which allowed many families to continue to be together after Christmas.
All that has changed with President Obama. No more press plane, for one. Reporters are on their own — so taking family is, say, $1,000 a pop. Not likely. And this president would never delay his trip to his island getaway. He’s off every year well before Christmas. Hundreds and hundreds head off with him, leaving family behind.
No Christmas at home.
Get a grip. Bush’s expenses have been tallied, and they are higher than they were for Obama.

There is no such thing as a “Western White House”. It is also well documented how Bush spent time on his Crawford ranch: entertaining, cutting brush, and mountain biking. 77 Air Force One flights to Crawford alone, costing taxpayers a total of $20 million.
Bush was one of the least involved presidents in modern history, he delegated almost everything. Perhaps that explains why his results were so poor by all measures.
As for the Christmas day stuff — whoopee. You get far too emotional about empty gestures. Just because Bush was more of a homebody than Obama and essentially refused to personally participate in foreign diplomatic affairs doesn’t make him more responsible looking than the guy who put miles on Air Force One to show up in person around the world wherever he can have a positive impact instead of “working vacations” at his private ranch.
Press plane for $100 a head — that’s the kind of government waste you normally rail against. It’s taxpayer money that made up the real cost of those flights. Making the press corps pay what it actually costs to haul them around is wise policy and it discourages frivolous waste.

Well, if Clinton and her State Department cronies had released rather than hid the public documents JW and other FOIA requesters wanted to see, it wouldn’t have required those 20 lawsuits. On several occasions the judges berated the government lawyers for failure to comply with the court’s orders.
It seems that Mr. Son “promised” the investment after Trump suggested that his administration would allow Sprint and T-Mobile to overcome anti-trust opposition and combine. The Obama administration had opposed it since monopolies hurt consumers. Under Trump, crony capitalism reigns supreme.
