“Apple is siphoning talent from one of its key partners, Imagination Technologies, which makes the graphics chip for the iPhone 7,” Buster Hein reports for Cult of Mac.
“The British chipmaker was rumored to be in acquisition talks with Apple earlier this year,” Hein reports. “Apple told the press it wasn’t interested in buying Imagination Technologies, but based on a slew of recent hires, the iPhone-maker does want its employees.”
“Several of Imagination’s senior employees and engineering talent have defected to Apple… Most notable among the recent hires is former Imagination COO John Metcalfe who has been working as a senior director at Apple since July,” Hein reports. “Other notable engineering hires from Imagination include Dave Roberts, Jonathan Redshaw, Benjamin Bowman and Simon Nield. On LinkedIn there are 25 former Imagination employees that are currently working at Apple.”

How about a Mac GPU better than the Intel shit they ship on damn near everything.
It seems to me, the fair thing to do is buy the company and show some love to the owner or investers.
Given that I only know the surface of their relationship, its better for the design team to work for Apple than Imagination.
I am guessing Imagination’s evaluation is a bit too high to acquire outright.
Well I suppose if you know that your company is going to lose its business eventually by producing its own products it’s better to join them now. It certainly seems likely that will be Apples next move in providing more of its own constuent parts expecially as GPUs have been a persistent problem for Apple generally. Makes sense.
