Under no circumstances should you buy a Samsung Galaxy Note 7

“No one could have known back in August that the release of Samsung’s best ever smartphone would end up being the worst thing that has ever happened to the company’s smartphone business,” Zach Epstein writes for BGR.

“Under no circumstances whatsoever should you purchase a Samsung Galaxy Note 7,” Epstein writes. “For Samsung and for its customers, the Galaxy Note 7 has been an absolute nightmare… Yes, as we all now know, an unknown number of Note 7 handsets were equipped with faulty batteries that could explode and catch fire. The true magnitude of this safety threat was realized when exploding Galaxy Note 7 phones caused personal injuries and car fires. One exploding Note 7 even ended up burning down its owner’s house. But the worst was yet to come.”

“The unthinkable happened: a ‘safe’ Galaxy Note 7 that had been issued to a customer as a replacement phone exploded and caught fire. On an airplane,” Epstein writes. “Consumers cannot and should not be confident that Samsung’s replacement Note 7 handsets are safe. So, until Samsung and the CPSC complete their investigations, do not purchase a Galaxy Note 7.”

That goes for washing machines, too.

  1. Lady Karma please be merciful and let these Samsung phones explode at a Crooked Hillary convention. After she lied about putting the Akaka Bill into effect, she does not the forgiveness of the Hawaiian people. Please spare no mercy onto our enemies.

  2. Have read technical articles that point to poor battery control software, largely due to fragmented, outsourced engineering and short cut quality control… i.e. not just faulty manufacturing, a serious design flaw which has been accumulating and reached a serious threshold. Apple avoids this issue with complete, consistent design/engineering integration and world class QC throughout the pipeline.

  3. I don’t think it’s the batteries. I think it is there crummy quick charge that is putting to much power at one time into those batteries and making them so hot they catch fire. The fires are always started while the phone is charging. They have a bigger problem then just there batteries.

    1. Guestimating from the OFF replacement Note 7 that blew and caught fire: Putting the thing into one’s pocket is sufficient to trigger the malady. That points to both crap batteries AND crap device engineering. Apparently, Samsung has solved neither.

      So have a party. 💥🔥💀👼

  4. “No one could have known back in August that the release of Samsung’s best ever smartphone would end up being the worst thing that has ever happened to the company’s smartphone business,”

No, that’s likely not true. I’m sure there were a few engineers at Samsung (just a as it was with the Shuttle’s SRB O-rings) that, when upper management pushed and insisted that the new smartphones be rushed to market before the iPhone 7, this would be a very real possibility.

    1. Um, sorry its nice to think Samsung are that stupid or underhanded but no way. They don’t make the batteries and I am sure they trusted in them. Nobody at Samsung thought “maybe the batteries / phones will explode if we ship them before iPhone 7”.
      They aren’t building rockets!

      1. No, it is Samsung’s responsibility to test their designs and products in part and as a whole. Testing WOULD have uncovered this problem before being shipped. It doesn’t mater where the parts came from. Apple talked about how some parts of the iPhone 7 caused problems with other parts and had to redesign the 7.
Even Samsung would agree that their slogan is NOT “Your Samsung phone is exploding? Not our problem!”

    2. The Note 7 disaster is far from the first time Samsung has suffered from exploding device buyer’s remorse. Samsung has never had this quantity of burning and exploding devices! But they’ve certainly had incidents from which they could learn how to avoid such incidents in the future. AND… They didn’t care.

    3. The Challenger disaster was the result of NASA’s desire to improve their public image.

News broadcasters and commentators at the time had developed a specific narrative: ridiculing NASA for repeatedly postponing launches for seemingly minor technical reasons.

After previous launchpad explosions, engineers continued to beg management to err on the side of caution and prudence.

Those engineers’ advice on launch conditions was finally overridden by a beleaguered space agency leadership anxious to improve their political position ahead of the next congressional funding decision. In other words, the news media effectively goaded NASA into the ill-advised launch.

After the explosion they cowardly hid their boilerplate clown stories about NASA, and never really owned up to their complicity.

      1. The presidency and NASA leadership set an impossible goal for the Shuttle that that could never be met. Even I, at the time, was scratching my head when I heard their schedual knowing it would never work.

The public put pressure on NASA and the government above them because that’s where NASA management stupidly placed the bar.

  5. Sales and import of ScamScum Galaxy and Note 7 phones should be banned!!! Additionally, the above phones should be banned on all public transportation, public and government buildings. Anyone knowingly breaking the ban should have a scarlet “S” tattooed on their forehead. 🖖😀⌚️

  6. Come on MDN, that graphic takes all the legitimacy out of MDN and makes a very important story move from Nightly News Headline to Grocery checkout Tabloid.

    Can’t you see that?

  7. . . . NOR should you trade a recalled Samsung Galaxy Note 7 for another flammable Galaxy Note 7. 🔥💥
