LG Display jacks up spending on OLED display production for Apple ‘iPhone 8’

“LG Display Co. will jack up investment on next-generation mobile screens as top customer Apple Inc. prepares to adopt ultra-thin, power-saving screens for iPhones as early as 2017,” Jungah Lee reports for Bloomberg.

“Apple is said to be in exclusive talks for rival Samsung Display Co. to supply OLED panels as early as next year. Chief Executive Officer Han Sang Beom concedes his company’s a relative latecomer to the scene and while the market remains small because of the technology’s cost, OLEDs will go mainstream in a matter of years,” Lee reports. “The company is also developing foldable displays, Han said without outlining the size or timing for future investments in screens.”

Lee reports, “‘It’s true that we were late in OLED investment for smaller electronics devices compared to that of televisions,’ Han said at a company event. ‘It’s undeniable that flexible OLEDs are now the mega-trend in the mobile segment and we will have to embrace that.'”

  1. Oh, this latest tactic and strategy pre empting attention and fanfare for all new Apple products by diverting attention (already in huge deficit) to products 2 or more cycles away, is pathetic and only possible due to the sad brain deficit and drain prevalent these days matched only by total ignorance and deial of such by dds everywhere.

Glad I’m on my way out relative to on my way in…

  2. Wow, this sounds totally strange to me. Why are they using the phrase “jacked up” to represent something good? These people are probably old and have never used slang until now. This was like reading “LG is expected to horribly mess up.” “Jacked up” was created to replace “f**ked up” without profanity, not to say “things will be wonderful.” Complete idiots.
