Piper Jaffray: WWDC Just an ‘appetizer’ for Apple’s fall product unveils

“Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster today offers his preview of next week’s Worldwide Developer Conference being held by Apple in San Francisco, writing that the focus will be on extensions to the Siri voice-activated intelligent assistant, and that it’s just an ‘appetizer’ for new product this fall,” Tiernan Ray reports for Barron’s.

“Munster, who has an Overweight rating on Apple shares, and a $153 price target, declares that ‘The main news out of this year’s will be opening up Siri for deeper voice control in iOS and updates to Apple Pay, with more incremental updates to iOS, OS X, WatchOS, and tvOS,'” Ray reports. “‘Overall, we view WWDC as a warm up to more meaningful announcements in the fall including iPhone 7 and an updated Apple Watch, [Munster says].”

Ray reports, “There is a small prospect for new Macbook laptops to be announced, but that hasn’t happened at the summer event since 2013, he notes, so it may be more likely in the fall.”

MacDailyNews Take: A little birdy tells us that this WWDC is going to be jam-packed with important developments. If this is the “appetizer,” the main course is really going to be something!

  1. WWDC will feature:
    – OS X renamed to macOS, focused on under the hood downgrades (see: Disk Utility in El Cap) and introducing new bugs
    – Siri on macOS so that you can be misunderstood on even more devices than before
    – 30 minute Taylor Swift unplugged gig
    – Apple Music update: even more problems with iCloud than before
    – 30 minute spoken word performance by Drake
    – new iOS: all remaining non-flat icons have been flattened, and every wallpaper photo is automatically converted into a 4-colour flat version
    – One more thing: new Apple Watch bands from Karl Lagerfeld, Victoria Beckham and Louis Vuitton

    A pessimist is never disappointed.

    1. Based on the last 5 years, Ray may be very close to correct.

I intend to turn off the broadcast the second Cook reminds us all again for the millionth time that he is very excited about products in the pipeline. DELIVER SOMETHING NEW FOR GOD’S SAKE.

  2. “Appetizer”, no menu of the main course? I’m guessing Piper Jaffray hasn’t a clue what to expect. If anyone actually knows what Apple plans to reveal in the next 9 months say it now or STFU.

  3. So now I have to use a “deeper voice” every time for Siri? What if I don’t like to use a deeper voice? What if I can’t use a deeper voice? Has Apple given any thought to some of us who may be vocally challenged?
