Johnson & Johnson supplants Apple as Barron’s most respected company

“Baby powder and band-aids beat iPhones this year in the eyes of professional investors,” Vito J. Racanelli reports for Barron’s. “In other words, Johnson & Johnson, renowned for household brands as well as prescription drugs and medical devices, knocked Apple from its perch atop Barron’s annual ranking of the world’s most respected companies.”

“J&J (ticker: JNJ) jumped to No. 1 from No. 6 in 2015,” Racanelli reports. “Apple (AAPL), crowned the winner last year by U.S. money managers, slipped to No. 3.”

“Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A), a perennial top-five finisher, stood at No. 2, up from third place in 2015,” Racanelli reports. “Online retailer Amazon.com (AMZN) advanced to No. 4 from No. 17, having finally proved it can generate cash after spending many years investing in its businesses. Rounding out this year’s top five: Nike (NKE), the athletic footwear and apparel giant, which sprinted up from ninth place in 2015.”

MacDailyNews Take: All of this latest batch of “concern” about Apple, most of it manufactured by those shorting Apple, obviously has an effect.

  1. Seriously? If every single J&J product vanished from the earth, would that really be a big deal for anyone?

And as far as “Amazon.com (AMZN) advanced to No. 4 from No. 17, having finally proved it can generate cash,” I’m not sure that “generate cash” means what they think it means.

They obviously haven’t seen a graph of quarterly profits from Amazon overlaid on a graph of Apple’s quarterly profits.

    1. Let’s be real… What J&J does is certainly more important than what Apple does with its couple of products. We lived many years without a cell phone and by god it can be done again.

    2. Oh look.

Johnson & Johnson just lost another talcum powder cancer lawsuit

Johnson & Johnson has suffered its second costly court defeat in less than three months over claims its talcum powder caused cancer. And many more cases are looming.

A jury in St. Louis awarded $55 million in damages to Gloria Ristesund, who used Johnson & Johnson’s talcum powder for more than 35 years before being diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2011. . . .

“Internal documents from J & J show it knew of studies connecting talc use and ovarian cancer but, to this day, it continues to market it as safe — neglecting any warning,” The Onder Law Firm, which represented Ristesund, said in a statement.

    3. Synth, you really can’t be this dumb can you? J&J have a broad spectrum of products. From simple little band aids to surgical devices, as well as drug therapies and medicines, vision products and the list is massive. I find it astonishing that 27 people actually agreed with you. Boy people are dumb. If Apple products (and I’m a fanboy) disappeared tomorrow, not much would change in our lives. Wait you couldn’t go on FB ever 5 seconds and take blurry photos. Big whoop.

    4. Talcum powder sold in US since the 70’s has been asbestos-free. Asbestos-free talcum powder is not a carcinogen. J&J and FDA, once aware that adbestos, was a carcinogen ensured that talcum powder was asbestos-free. Of course, both J&J and FDA were ignorant of the health risk of asbestos in talcum powder in the early 20th century. Kind of like your current ignorance in the 21st century.

  2. No problem, “professional investors” have been severely hurt this year with the turbulence of Oil; their needs are catered for these days much better by J&J as they look at them as a one stop shop to help them overcome their angst:

    1. Prescription drugs to ease the pain
    2. Medical devices to keep an eye out for further pain
    3. Band aids to plaster over the falls
    4. Baby powder for those sweaty places as Stock prices gyrate

J&J has it all, plus with Amazon Prime they can get this stuff hastily delivered to their offices within the hour.

  3. SE Johnson is a family company. Apple is a greedy mukti national company from China. Time Cook is busy robbing us of our money’s and tying to push Apple Paty on us. Stay away from Apple people!!!!

    1. You’re an idiot.
J&J is NOT a family company.
Apple is not a Chinese company.
Tim Cook is not “robbing” anyone.
Apple “Paty” is not being pushed on anyone.

Do your homework Joe. And clean your frickin room.

      1. It is a faimly company. It says that in the adds. It is owned by the Johnson and Jonson Familys.

Meanwhile Apple is doing things that aren’t so “family friendly” if you klow what I Mean.

Apple is based in China now that they are bought by Disdi Chucking. They are based in Shamgaih

        1. Thanks so much for your valuable contribution, belligerent asswipe.

It will be a great day for the Internet when AI is advanced to ask:
” Does this post contain insults and name-calling? If ‘Yes’, delete.”

I will happily have this post of mine deleted by the filters if it means no more belligerent asswipe and One Note Joe.
