“The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office officially published a series of 55 newly granted patents for Apple Inc. today,” Jack Purcher reports for Patently Apple. “In this particular report we cover Apple’s winning invention for advanced vehicle access and control system.”
“Apple’s granted patent generally relates to wireless communication between computing devices and more particularly to using portable computing devices to access a vehicle,” Purcher reports.
“Before there was ever a whisper of Project Titan, Apple had invented a future iPhone system that would be able to open your car door, start your engine, shut off your engine for specific time frames, be able to program complete personalized car settings and much, much more,” Purcher reports. “The feature set described in this invention went far beyond anything that could have been conceived working with CarPlay.”

MacDailyNews Take: Translatable to Apple Watch, hopefully, as that would be a much more convenient.

I can see manufacturers offering the Apple Watch as an option when buying a car.
Assuming most buyers finance in some way, this would be a good way of boosting watch sales and expanding the public’s exposure to the overall Apple ecosystem at a very small cost (on a monthly basis) to the consumer.
I think it’s more likely that car manufacturers will do everything possible to prevent Apple getting a foothold in auto electronics.
Most of the auto industry is running scared of Apple and they imagine that the best strategy is to resist having any involvement with Apple.
I’d love to be able to open my car with my G4 tower. Hopefully they will go beyond just Apple Watch.
And Corydoras Technologies are preparing their future lawsuit. Friggin’ assholes.
Maybe it’s just me but I don’t think I want any system where I can remotely control the ignition system of my car.
