Social Capital CEO calls Apple’s Tim Cook ‘human Ambien’

“Social Capital CEO Chamath Palihapitiya said Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos is a ‘fantastic’ capital allocator and a maniacal CEO solely interested in running his company,” Tom DiChristopher reports for CNBC.

“And Palihapitiya said the exact opposite is true of Apple CEO Tim Cook. Under Cook, Apple has left hundreds of billions of dollars ‘rotting’ on its balance sheet for years, he asserted,” DiChristopher reports. “‘They have a CEO that is unfortunately, you know, pretty lackluster. I saw him on Mad Money and … it was like human Ambien. I mean, it was pretty boring,’ he told CNBC’s Squawk Box.”

DiChristopher reports, “‘As a person that’s worked for great leaders, and is around a lot of great technology leaders, it would be very difficult for me to work for him,’ said Palihapitiya, a Silicon Valley-based venture capitalist and former Facebook executive.”

MacDailyNews Take: Yeah, after this, you won’t have to worry about working for him.

“Social Capital has $1.2 billion in assets under management and focuses on early stage investments in education, health care, financial services, and enterprise and consumer segments,” DiChristopher reports. “Palihapitiya said he would work for Bezos in a heartbeat, and would have also worked for the late Steve Jobs.”

MacDailyNews Take: Scathing and not eminently disputable. Yet, somehow, we expect Cook will manage to survive just fine.

Running the world’s most valuable company is tough enough, imagine having to do it while following Steve Jobs.MacDailyNews Take, May 4, 2016

  1. Ooh! Amazon! A huge online bargain department store. How inspiring! I think Apple is more important to my life – by many orders of magnitude, whatever whining this guy wants to do about Tim.

  2. Take a hike Palihapitiya

Most dynamic CEO of all time STEVE JOBS Worked with Tim for over a decade and allowed Tim Cook to make Apple the most profitable machine it is.

And Steve,at the end, nominated him to be the CEO of Apple!

Now who cares if you like to work with him or not.. (Read 1sr line again )

  3. But Cook does talk too much to the media, and, when he does, he uses too many words to express an idea, especially overusing qualifiers. He’s chatty. Drones on like the CEO who Jobs dethroned, Gil Emilio.

    1. But Cook does talk too much to the media

And only last year one of the doom mongering memes was that Mr. Cook didn’t talk enough to the media. His personality is FAR from ‘chatty’, unlike I suspect Mr. Palihapitiya.

IOW: Once again you’re not making sense. Too many artist’s paint thinner fumes?

  4. you know…
    I mean…
As a person that’s worked for great leaders…

Pity Social Capital CEO Chamath Palihapitiya isn’t so great himself. He clearly has a marketing/social personality. This means he’d hate working with the producer personalities who are the majority of the technology community. Flipping this table: I have no doubt that, courteous as Tim Cook always is, he’d find working with Social Capital CEO Chamath Palihapitiya a PITA. This is the classic personality clash.

Please stay out of technology Social Capital CEO Chamath Palihapitiya and save us a lot of suffering. 😀

  5. Where do CNBC drag in these clowns from; what a laugh to make such claims about Bezos; wonder how many human robots working in Amazon warehouses agree with him!!

  6. You can get an idea of just how boring Tim Cook is because a bidder was only prepared to pay half a million dollars to have lunch with him. Just imagine how much might be raised by an auction to have lunch with the amazingly interesting and insightful Chamath Palihapitiya.
