Apple Music and coherent product design and marketing

Bloomberg reports ‘Apple to Revamp Streaming Music Service After Mixed Reviews, Departures,'” John Gruber writes for Daring Fireball. “This is a good test for today’s Apple on two fronts.”

“First, will they actually succeed in streamlining the interface to Apple Music? I still think the most obvious solution is to make Apple Music its own standalone app,” Gruber writes. “‘All your music in one app’ sounds like a great idea in theory, but in practice, I believe that is what has led to the confusing UI… a music app shouldn’t be confusing. I think that’s held Apple Music back.”

“Second, it’ll be a test of Apple’s presentation skills,” Gruber writes. “Last year’s Apple Music announcement in the WWDC keynote was the worst segment in an Apple keynote in modern history. It was rambling, awkward, left important questions unanswered, and went on way too long. I don’t break out my ‘This wouldn’t have happened if Steve Jobs were still around‘ stamp very often, but I broke it out for that one. I believe these two things are related. Coherence in product design leads to coherence in product marketing. And vice versa…”

MacDailyNews Take: Just rein in Jimmy this time around. With the bloom now off the rose, just tell him “No,” like you should have last year. At least have him prepare and rehearse a SHORT bit, for a change.

Before last year’s WDDC, Jimmy should have followed our advice:

Not all RDFs are created equal. Be careful, Jimmy. There’s a fine line between operating a functional RDF and a dump truck full of bullshit.MacDailyNews, May 29, 2014

Then WWDC happened, which prompted:

We’ve always had the inkling that Steve Jobs understood exactly what Jimmy Iovine was, but that, perhaps, Jimmy bamboozled Tim Cook with bullshit.MacDailyNews, June 9, 2015

  1. Some of those songs on Apple Music are so vulgar. Potty-mouthed singers like Snoop Dog, Eric Clapton, and Lil Rob should not be on that Radio Service.

What if a child hears some of these lyrickes?

Since these girls peepin me I’ma glide and swerve
These h**kers lookin so hard they straight hit the curb
Gonna think of better things than some h*rny tr*cks
I see my homey and some suckers all in his mix”

I honestly can’t believe Apple let this song slip through their censors. And there are DOZENS of other foul mouthed songs I’ve heard on Apple Music.

Tim Cook needs to start paying attention to the details. Because this kind of quality review is shocking. It’s almost as if Apple doesn’t care, like they want to make money off of swearing “rap songs” and songs about prostitution.
