“Apple’s critics have a lot of meat and potatoes in the March quarter financials to enjoy,” Gene Steinberg writes for The Tech Night Owl. “For the first time since 2007, iPhone sales were down by double digits, and Mac sales also dropped by a fairly significant degree.
“The iPad? Well, the decrease wasn’t as much as in previous quarters, but it doesn’t look as if many of Apple’s products are growing,” Steinberg writes. “But it’s the first March quarter for the Apple Watch, so there’s no trend. Moreover, Apple’s services business is increasing by the double digits, so the suggestion that it’s a complete slowdown just doesn’t wash.”
Steinberg writes, “If financial and industry pundits would only learn to look at long-term trends, rather than short-time bumps in the road, they’ll have to admit that Apple isn’t going away.”

All of you pro Cook guys have now been saying the same thing for YEARS. “Don’t bet against Cook.” “Apple has an amazing product pipeline.” “You ain’t seen nothing yet!”
Well, after 5 years running Apple, the company does not have one new hit yet. Cook tried recently with Apple Watch and Apple TV. Both of which aren’t really selling well.
Cook is not executing in key areas and this is the difference between him and Jobs. He never went deep enough on the Apple TV: no Apps as channels and self published channels, for instance. It’s not a must have device and it hasn’t reinvented TV at all. Roku is running circles around it.
The Apple Watch. Nobody wants a geeky wrist computers. The screen is simply too small for it to do much of anything good.
MacBooks 12″? Why the hell wouldn’t Cook replace the Airs with these and make them perform better? Now we have Airs on the market using last century screen technology.
What about a backlit desktop bluetooth keyblard?
I could go on and on. And all of you will just continue to make excuses for him.
Cook should not lead Apple. Unfortunately, I also believe Jobs is not replaceable.
Sure there are area’s that can stand improvement (Mac Pro eh heh) and Apple is under more scrutiny than most companies but the one thing you cannot deny is the amount of money they make. It’s not likely they are sitting still, twiddling their thumbs and just riding on Steve Jobs laurels as every simple minded soul thinks. But there are only so many paradigm busting new products you can make with current technology and I believe they’re working on most of them (Apple Car). The rest is mostly just upgrading R&D until the technology takes another huge turn.
I love my Apple Watch and us “nobodies” are in the millions. Apple TV can only go as far as the industry will let them. Remember Steve Jobs incredible difficulty with the recording industry? It’ll happen inevitably but you have to let these things unfold and other media companies need to let go of their iron grip, something they are loathe to do – lose control. It’s the death throes of the phone and cable companies coming to the realization that all they are is dumb pipes and their day is almost done. People and companies aren’t likely to gracefully get out of the way for as long as possible. Until they do progress is slower than we’d like. Apple TV and all it’s promise shouldn’t arrived in 2014. For that blame the networks and cable channels, not Apple.
Oh, I’d also like to add to your list (besides a worthy Mac Pro tower & mini-tower) a 32″ 5K standalone monitor.

How many years did we have minor upgrades to Power PC laptops under Jobs, before switching to Intel?
Even then the iMacs, Mac Pros, and MacBooks took the same form as their predecessors.
How many years did we have minor iterative upgrades to iPods where they just gave them more storage and made them smaller/thinner under Jobs before the revolutionary iPhone?
How many dud products were released under Jobs? The Cube, MobilMe?
How many collusion issues caused by Steve jobs are Apple now paying for?
The iBooks debacle, the Google, Intel, Adobe agreement not to hire each others employees.
Apple was not all roses under Steve Jobs.
Apple has a long history of iterative upgrades to products for long periods before making breakthrough products that often cannibalise sales of others.
Products like the Mac Pro could be set for a major refresh.
If you research recent Apple patents you will find interesting concepts that could lead to great products of the future.
Eg. MacBook with keyless keyboard.

There are also quite a few acquisitions made by Apple since 2013 that have not made it into future products yet.

Primesense, Metaio, Perceptio, Faceshift, Emotient, Flyby Media all suggest a move into virtual/augmented reality.

I think the current AppleTV got stymied by the networks and was released a year late. Apple just couldn’t secure the content, they saw the competitors gaining the lead and had to release the hardware, hence the old A8 chip.
You could argue Steve Jobs could have secured the content, but those networks seemed very stubborn.

I think the sales estimates and satisfaction ratings are plenty evidence that you are wrong.
For a version 1 device that is amazing. Version 2 looks to go much further into health monitoring with more sensors, possibly on straps, better battery life, untethered GPS etc. and I would expect it to offer deeper control over devices through Homekit and paired with an updated AppleTV, iPhone etc could be quite amazing.

Is your desktop Mac always in a dark room? Battery life would be pretty poor with a backlit keyboard.

I think many of us share share some of your frustration. I don’t like the direction of the non upgradable Macs. I don’t like the dumbing down of the software. The ‘flat’ unintuitive elements creeping into iOS & MacOS X.
I however, think you are blaming the wrong man. Jony Ive has been given too much power. His obsession with thinness compromises the battery life and expandability of hardware. His design of the UI is more about appearance rather than functionality and intuitiveness.
In that way I think Jobs was irreplaceable. He was the one man that would say, “this is shit do it again”.
