Yesterday, “Apple unveiled the beginnings of its efforts for Earth Day 2016, and with it came an updated webpage that aims to answer all sorts of questions about Apple and its focus on the environment,” Chance Miller reports for 9to5Mac.
“One tidbit of information on that page, however, is that instead of referring to its desktop operating system as OS X, Apple again has referred to it as MacOS,” Miller reports. “In a section on the webpage that discusses Apple’s process for conducting a product life cycle assessment, it refers to MacOS, tvOS, iOS, and watchOS devices. There’s no mention of OS X anywhere on the site.”
“It makes sense for Apple to rebrand its OS X operating system to MacOS. It puts the naming more in line with watchOS, tvOS, and iOS,” Miller reports. “Although, it’s somewhat interesting that Apple has referred to it here as MacOS and not ‘macOS.’ The difference, however, could be that Mac is a proper noun while ‘tv’ and ‘watch’ technically aren’t without the Apple stuck in front of them.”

Makes sense. It can’t be version “X” (ten) forever… 🙂
Rebrand all you want. Until we get some basic productivity tools like true across the board “drag & drop”, or true across the board “right click context menus”, OS X or whatever in the hell you want to call it will be the same anti productive piece of garbage that it is now. This doesn’t even begin to address the glaring weakness of OS X not playing nice with iOS. If there’s a backwards, convoluted way of doing something, OS X will go miles out of its way to do it that way.

No one is forcing you to use it. Buy a Microsoft OS computer and stop whining.
Seriously? “Same anti productive piece of garbage”? Compared to what? Microsoft Windows?
Most of the backward way of trying to get the two connected is all of the common sense that is missing from iOS.
Have you actually touched a mac in your life?
Aside from needing to actually turn on right-click for trackpads and Apple mice (which I admit is stupid), I can be 10x as productive on my mac as I am on my PC.
My entire job revolves around supporting PC’s and BYOD devices (about 70% apple, 30% everything else) and I can tell you that OS X, while not perfect, is the easiest thing to support in a normal environment.
Windows 10 regularly crashes, freezes, or gets one of the dozens of variations of a “black screen of death” with just a black screen and a cursor on a daily basis. Add in the stupidity of how it plays with AD, the multiple layers of menus to accomplish the exact same thing (change your background or theme), the borderline unusable nature of the tile-based UI, and the fact that your are usually using some inferior POS hardware while suffering all of the above, and you will quickly realize that OS X is still the better option.
Just because it has not been explained to YOU, does not make it stupid, it just makes you ignorant.
Who said anything about Windoze? Why do OS X fanboys always compare to something else? Make something that works and works well. OS X is a piece of shit.
Today I learned that Macs don’t have right-click or drag-and-drop.
Are you seriously this dense? Go into Preferences and turn on right-click. As for drag-and-drop…try dragging something and dropping it somewhere else. It works.
Guess no one understands simple logic. It is referred to in this context as MacOS to explain to simple minded folk that it is not the OS used in the Watvk, the TV or the iPad. The sky is not falling!

With the improved name how about improving a good operating system to a great operating system.

Whatever. It’s on a Mac. I never understood why ‘Mac’ was dropped from the name in the first place. I hope this isn’t just another ‘look we’re doing something!’ marketing renaming game. I hate that. 😛
They’ve changed the wording on the page back to “OS X”.
This is done because OS X is at the heart of all of these so the MacOS is jut to indicate hardware platform not a rebranding.
Let’s Hope they are not planning to turn OS 10 into the crippled IOS. It should be the other way around
