“Apple’s professional-grade tablets now come in two distinct sizes: A 9.7-inch iPad Pro and a jumbo-sized 12.9-inch model,” Neil Hughes writes for AppleInsider. “And while they both share a number of key features, including Apple Pencil support and the Smart Connector, both iPads are clearly geared toward different types of users.”
“The gap between 9.7 and 12.9 inches may not sound like a lot, but in the case of the diagonal screen size on an iPad, it makes a world of difference. The 12.9-inch iPad Pro’s display is so large that its width is equal to the full height of the 9.7-inch model,” Hughes writes. “In other words, the 12.9-inch iPad Pro display is equivalent to two 9.7-inch screens placed side by side.”
“If you’re going to be using the Apple Pencil a lot, particularly for drawing, we feel the 12.9-inch model is a better fit,” Hughes writes. “Similarly, if you plan on using a keyboard a great deal — especially Apple’s Smart Keyboard — then the larger 12.9-inch form factor is going to offer you more space to type.”

MacDailyNews Take: While we’re still toting MacBook Airs (soon to be next-gen MacBooks) in our Crumpler backpacks, the 12.9-inch iPad Pro is plenty portable enough and its other advantages beyond a massive increase in display real estate (double the RAM, USB 3 Lightning port) make it a no brainer, even with it being about half a pound more at 1.57 lbs.
12.9″ but I’m just over compensating 😉
“both iPads are clearly geared toward different types of users.”
“And with the two iPad Pro options, there’s a lot to decide between”
So is it clear, or is there a lot to decide between?
Apple product offerings are extremely confusing for consumers and resellers alike. With the color chooses, cellular, size, Pro etc, There are currently 70 different iPad skews along with 40 different phone skews.
The average person walks into the store looking for an iPad or an iPhone. It’s to the point of being ridiculous.
What a lame comment. If Apple DIDN’T provide these choices, there would be even more complaints.
Tell that to the dude that walks into the Apple store who knows nothing about iPads simply looking for an iPad for his wife’s birthday.
You are kidding right? Useless devices…… By a MacBook.
Buy both—I have.🤑
You must just be an Apple hoarder
Neither……. Either a waste at 1k+. Consumption device period.
