Apple’s only Iowa retail store getting major makeover, massive expansion

“The Apple Store at Jordan Creek Town Center in West Des Moines is getting a major makeover,” Patt Johnson reports for USA Today. “Apple is taking over the former Brookstone space to its west, and the Clarks shoe store to the east. The expansion will nearly triple the size of the often crowded store. Brookstone closed in January and Clarks moved to a new space in the mall last week.”

“Apple will be temporarily housed in a space across from the construction in a storefront formerly occupied by New York & Company, which recently closed, said Randy Tennison, general manager of the mall,” Johnson reports. “Construction on the new Apple Store will take about five months, Tennison said. Walls will be torn down between the former stores and new displays, work tables and other features will be added.”

“A building permit issued by West Des Moines listed the value of the construction project at $3 million,” Johnson reports. “The new store will be about 7,160 square feet.”

  1. So many Apple stores in mid and smaller sized markets suffer from the “often crowded store”. Nowhere to stand much less sit, basically elbow to elbow. This is a large detraction to the “Apple store experience”. The solution is usually next door or across the mall, more sq. ft. Come on Apple you have enough grand stores in the capitols of the world, how about us folks in the outback ?
