The Verge reviews Apple’s 9.7-inch iPad Pro: Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead!

Apple’s new 9.7-inch iPad Pro “looks so much like the iPad Air 2 that you’ll mistake it for one when you see it, yet the insides are so much more powerful it’ll blow your hair back,” Dieter Bohn writes for The Verge. “It’s packed with a weapons depot of ‘bests’ for a tablet: the best screen, the best speakers, the best camera, the best processor.”

“The difference between the iPad Pro and the iPad Air is roughly equivalent the difference between the MacBook Pro and the MacBook Air: they can both essentially do the same things, but the Pro is just way, way faster,” Bohn writes. “The battery is more than good enough to last a full day of work — and then some. In my tests it actually exceeded Apple’s claimed life of 10 hours. The A9X processor inside is the same as what you’ll find on the larger iPad Pro, and it flies.”

“If you think of this iPad Pro as ‘just’ an iPad, you’re going to be impressed,” Bohn writes. “I’ve already enthused about the screen and the speed, but there’s more to it.”

  1. Apple has done an amazing job with their hardware. Now it’s really time for something new from iOS. I haven’t been impressed with it since iOS7, three years is long enough.

  2. What’s not to like? The cut-down, semi-functional OS and apps, which make this a toy or, at best, a reading tool for all except users in vertical markets where a single specific app is used (airline pilots for instance).

I am SO sick of hearing the iPad promoted as a PC or Mac replacement. Until it runs a full OS and has a trackpad it won’t ever cut it as a work device.
