Apple supporters to rally worldwide today against U.S. government demand to unlock iPhone

“iPhone users will rally at Apple stores worldwide Tuesday, a show of support for the tech company as it fights back against a court order requiring it to help FBI agents unlock a terrorist’s phone — a demand backed by the families of the victims and Apple rival Bill Gates,” Meg Wagner reports for New York Daily News. “Demonstrators are expected to gather at more than 40 Apple stores — including New York City’s Fifth Avenue location and shops in Germany, China and the U.K. — at 5:30 p.m. local time.”

“The group, dubbed ‘Don’t Break Our Phones,’ supports the tech company’s refusal to break into an encrypted iPhone used by Syed Farook, the San Bernardino terrorist who killed 14 people in December,” Wagner reports. “Last week, a judge ordered Apple to write software that would bypass the phone’s security and help agents access the data — and any possible evidence — but CEO Tim Cook pushed back, citing privacy concerns in a fiery open letter to his customers.”

  1. You know when Gates is brought into the issue “Microsoft founder Bill Gates on Monday said tech companies should be forced to cooperate with the government’s investigations into terrorism.” it makes me wonder if it really means investigations so that the government can become terrorists. In Bill’s country it’s certainly mission accomplished.

I’m sure Bill Gates will be more than happy to pay for Tim Cook’s trip to the luxurious Guatanamo on the Bay resort if Tim needs uh, further convincing.

Just one thing to remember though, the Gates of Dell shall never prevail.

    Rally on!

  2. Bill Gates is trying to get the government to do that he could not, stop Apple.

Apple is more than ever before a threat to Microsoft and Bill would like help from the government to shut that threat down once and for all.

  3. It is good that Apple refuses to build a universal back door into every iOS device, but do not be so naive to think that Apple has never worked hand-in-hand with government agencies to hack into other iOS devices. Apple has admitted this provided that this compliance passes legal muster.
