MacDailyNews Take: Hopefully, it includes a “6” in the name instead of a “5.”
As we wriote yesterday: Everything sounds great except for the name. The “5” makes it seem like old tech, regardless of what’s inside, and the “se” adds unnecessary complexity. If they’re going to round off the case edges à la the 6 and 6s models, with 6/s color schemes available (Space Gray, Silver, Gold, Rose Gold), name it using a “6,” at least.
Will be a stealth hit.
iPhone mini would be a stealthier hit.
iPhone classic would sound like old tech.
“SE” might very well mean “Second Edition,” but that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, since it clearly isn’t the “second” edition.
It can’t mean “System Expandable,” like in the old days with the Macintosh SE… no method of internal expansion.
So… why the SE at all?

I don’t think it’s a good idea to draw conclusions from sketchy supplier reports. I like to be surprised when Apple announces new iPhones.
With the iPhone upgrade program, AppleCare included and yearly upgrades, this price point is going to be a huge success!

Apple is actually going to start using California place-names for its iPhones, like they do with OSX. It will be called iPhone 6LA.
My first thought was “that would be lame”, but then again, I’m typing this on El Capitan.
It is vital that Apple make sure the device carries a sense of parity with the 6 models. Apple customers, and particularly iPhone users buy based on fashion. I know women who will tell you flat out that the goal is to be seen with the newest iPhone and if there is no significant visual differentiation, they aren’t interested in upgrading.
Apple users are not known for sidegrading, and they are especially not known for downgrading. Even though the new phone might be the smaller device that many people have wanted, the perception that it is in any way less than the 6 series will kill it.
Those numbers, 4,5, and 6 mean something to people. 5 will be backward in their minds.
Remember the 5c? Failure.

Well, technically, the rumored phone is supposed to share the physical design with the 5S, so it should be called 5. If they want to do a 4″ phone with 6 stylings, that would be very different.
SE stands for Superlative Economy
Very likely to be considered a failure by Apple critics. Any iPhone that isn’t completely new is always said to be Apple running out of new ideas. All the tech industry is looking for from Apple is some radical new product and not a rehash of something old.
You are a failure troll.
Why not call it something like the iPhone Mini? Or the iPhone Air? Get away from the numbers and letters, which add confusion.
I realize people rely on the numbers to keep track of iPhone models, but perhaps this can be a break from that?
At the very least, call it the iPhone 6 Mini.
Include 3D touch (although it doesn’t seem to be a feature that people really have been waiting for. It may be too complicated for older people.)
Give it some cool colorss and call it 6SE to make it sound like sexy!
