“Apple reported record Q1 revenue yesterday, warning that Q2 iPhone sales may shrink slightly because global economic and social instability is bad for business,” Jonny Evans writes for Computerworld. “Wall Street responded its usual way and abandoned ship.”
“The truth is that lower disposable incomes in the region means smartphones are often the user’s only computer,” Evans writes. “Smartphone unit sales in India rose 44 per cent in the second quarter of 2015 from a year earlier, said IDC. Not only this, but the Indian economy is expected to grow rapidly this year. However, Apple currently holds only a tiny (c.2%) portion of India’s smartphone sales, but this will change this year.”
“Apple’s rumored plan to launch a 4-inch iPhone 5se will help the company address a wider range of the market,” Evans writes. “‘I see the demographics there also being incredibly great for a consumer brand, and for people that really want the best product,’ Cook said during last night’s fiscal call. ‘We have been putting increasingly more energy in India.'”

India is a pipe dream. Granted they do have a huge population, there will never be a big enough population that would consider paying primo for a phone. Also, most are ignorant of privacy intrusions by the likes of Google (or probably they do not care). Given that most media are paid hacks , the populace will remain uninformed.
India’s GDPis 2 trillion, probably stagnant growth. China GDP is 10 trillion growing at least 4 percent if you go by the shysters of WS, 6.9 percent if by China government numbers. Regardless China is transitioning into a service economy much like USA did in the 1950s. The GDP growth will understate the actual market economy growth in China. The Chinese, aside from their brand consciousness, also are aware of the porous nature of the Java mobile as implemented by android. Apple is wasting money and resources in India.

The problem with most countries is that selfishness prevails. Believe you me, the malaise is easily fixed. Wages in most third world countries can easily be tripled creating a win-win for everyone. But, your see it is not worth being rich unless everyone else is miserable. If their captains of industry act like true human beings instead of carbon elements a majority of their peoples will truly join a vibrant middle class.
This is not only true of India. This is true about the P.I., Brazil, and many other third world countries. The selfishness and total uncaring by the upper class reeks (same as the WS shysters). The additional problem India has is that the caste system is alive and well. The truth hurts. Relegating a whole portion of society as outcasts (untouchables) is just plain evil.
I took one man in the USA, Henry Ford, to change and create a market economy. Although having a Teddy Roosevelt to control the shysters did help too.

No. In 1996, I said that China’s economy will be the largest in the world in 25 years. I also said that Dheng Zhou Ping should be awarded a Nobel prize for lifting hundreds of millions from abject poverty. Heck, the whole Chinese politburo should be awarded the Nobel prize.
I also said because of the insidiously evil caste system, India’s masses will remain miserable.
I think I recall that the “middle class” population in India has grown to be larger than the total population of the USA.
Many buy a significant amount of gold and silver and can also afford to buy iPhones and will decide that quality and security are worthwhile investments.
