Majority of Apple Watch owners plan to give it as a gift

“As Apple Watch enters the critical holiday shopping season, it looks likely to get a sales boost from happy customers, almost two-thirds of whom are planning to give one as a gift, a Reuters/Ipsos poll showed on Tuesday,” Julia Love reports for Reuters.

“The poll found that about 7 percent of U.S. adults plan to give the Watch as a gift this holiday season, including current owners,” Love reports. “That could translate to sales of up to 16 million watches over the holidays, based on 2014 U.S. Census projections and excluding younger teens.”

“If even a fraction of consumers follow through, Apple would be well-positioned to meet or beat Wall Street’s 2015 sales forecasts, which generally range from 10 million to 12 million watches, said FBR Capital Markets analyst Daniel Ives, who expects about 12 million sold worldwide,” Love reports. “Sixty-two percent of U.S. adults who already have an Apple Watch plan to give the gadget as a holiday gift, according to the Reuters/Ipsos poll.”

    1. With some of my relatives, if you gave them Apple Watches or jewelry they would pawn them and blow the money on twinkies and pork rinds or Sangria. That’s why I don’t bother with gifts. Maybe other families are more genteel.

  1. I’m giving my family Pebble smart watches, instead.
    They are half the price.
    They are well designed.
    They use quality materials, too!
The Pebble smartwatches ARE NOT Apple Watch wannabes!
Their OS works well and their smart watches integrate across ALL iOS devices running iOS 8 or later.. NOT just tye latest greatest iPhone ONLY!
My Pebble Time smart watch looks and works great!
It has no touch screen or digital crown, but these are really needed for the Pebble OS
Pebble OS integrates fairly well with most iOS apps, too!
I have the Pebble tied to Bluetooth on my iPod Touch 6th gen. It’s a win, win!

    1. Only half the cost. Why not just give them a candy cane instead? It is even cheaper. If the point is to give them a special treat that they want and normally wouldn’t get for themselves then don’t get cheap.
