“Earlier this week it was discovered that Dell had installed an insecure root certificate on some of their PCs, making it easy for attackers to impersonate secure websites, like banks, and intercept secure communications,” Rene Ritchie reports for iMore. “Dell has since apologized and supplied a tool to remove the certificate (deleting it wasn’t enough, of course, as Dell would automatically re-install it.”
“It may not be as bad as Lenovo, who was caught doing similar in order to inject their own advertising, and then caught again, but it’s not good,” Ritchie reports. “And it’s another sign that anyone who cares about the sanctity of their computer system would do well to consider buying a Mac.”

MacDailyNews Take: We’ve been shaking our heads for years as people waddle out of Best Buy with absolutely horrid Windows PC garbage. Anyone who’s still doing it today is either morbidly stupid or terminally deranged.

Two possibilities: 1) they’re incompetent. 2) They saw a way to make money by subverting their users’ security.

The first time you are hit with it you realize you should have bought a Mac.

Enjoy the glory days, folks. Twenty years ago the majority of people had been brainwashed to think that Macs were toys having like three applications and that they were nothing more than wannabe PCs. Almost daily I would hear BS along these lines. But things have changed. A while back our chief IT guy switched to Mac and I’ve heard the former Windows fanatic in the next office talking about tossing his Windows machine at home for a Mac. It’s nice not to be the object of daily derision.
The main reason why I am considering a Windows PC is because the Voiceover screen reader, made by Apple, has been a sinking ship for years. It is more neglected on osX, but iOS is starting to see it too. Windows has its problems, but one thing it has going for it is that developers make their own screen readers and that’s that. They’re all good, pollished, and suffer none of Apple’s quality problems as of the past 4 years or so. I, as a blind person, would rather use my computer than work around bugs in a screen reader made by the computer’s own company. So yes, that at least is why blind people now are switching to Windows, and if they can’t get a PC in hardware, they get VmWare to have Windows on their Mac, free of this Dell Adware crap. Probably the best choice, keep the mac running, and just use Windows on it.
