Apple’s new iPad Pro “features a super-powerful A9X system on a chip, 4GB of RAM, and improved memory architecture,” Jeff Benjamin reports for iDownload Blog. “It’s a beast of a machine, no doubt.”
“But is the iPad Pro beastly enough to go toe-to-toe with an 2.3 Ghz Intel i7 equipped MacBook Pro with 16GB of RAM?” Benjamin asks. “Surely that’s crazy talk, no?”

Haven’t we been hearing a lot of truck lately about how the iPad Pro shouldn’t have pro in the name?
Verdict: definitely deserves the Pro moniker.
Pro? Running iMovie?
Must be another definition of the term ‘pro’ that I am unaware of.
If you want one I suggest buying one from an actual pro who thought they could use this for serious work. I’ll change my mind if Apple releases FCPX on iOS, but we all know that’ll never happen.
I wish Apple would put out it’s own GPUs for Macs instead of the Intel Iris and Intel HD shit they have cursed most of their hardware with.
You might be right about that. Apple’s own GPUs might actually be better. I’m just worried about software compatibility. Besides, to do that, they might have to use their own CPUs, which would hamper software compatibility.
I think it would be a fairer comparison if they used a Retina MacBook Pro which was equipped with a dedicated GPU. Besides, most people (if not all) who regularly edit video have dedicated/discrete GPUs.
That’s my thought as well. I’m here on essentially the same MacBook Pro as the demo video, except I’ve got the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M GPU incorporated into the machine. I’d like to have seen the results on my MBP next to his next to the iPad Pro. Except I already know what would be the clear winner.
Nonetheless, the demo beautifully shows off that the iPad Pro GPU is no slouch. Good on Apple.
While the comments above are valid with respect to a dedicated GPU and iMovie and such, it is great to see a concrete demonstration of the horsepower of the iPad Pro. It has the chops to do some real work. Given that, the apps will follow.
It always fascinates me that these comparisons show fingerprints or dust. Lol …granted, it’s a lighting thing… I keep forgetting not all are OCD.
I’m excited to get the iPad Pro… just have to remember, when showing friends and neighbors… to watch out for glare!
I wonder if they’ll release a worthwhile version of FCP for the new iPad Pro? Or am I making a valid argument for the desktop/laptop to remain supreme? I’ll answer: it’s just a matter of time… something win8 idiots didn’t consider.
