Instagram said to test next-gen ads that leverage Apple’s 3D Touch, Apple Pay; Instagram denies

“Facebook-owned Instagram is reportedly testing ads that exploit two of Apple’s most recent technologies, 3D Touch and Apple Pay, as part of a broader effort to reap more cash from the photo-sharing service,” Roger Fingas reports for AppleInsider.

In the case of 3D Touch, people browsing an ad in their feed might be able to use it to switch among multiple product options, Digiday said, citing an anonymous ad agency executive,” Fingas reports. “Apple Pay would allow people to buy products almost instantly.”

“‘From an innovation standpoint, Instagram is where a lot of brands are putting the most eggs,’ the ad agency executive said. ‘Force touch gets interesting, because instead of quickly tapping Shop Now to buy this one thing, you can choose from two or three offers. It makes for more frictionless shopping,'” Garett Sloane reports for Digiday. “Even more frictionless is the fact that the iPhone’s Apple Pay set-up lets people buy items with a click, the source said.”

Sloane reports, “Update: Instagram said that it is interested in e-commerce but denied currently testing the new features. ‘Mobile commerce is definitely a space we are looking at closely. However, this isn’t something we are testing at this time,’ a spokesperson said.”
