Apple Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue shows CNNMoney’s Brian Stelter the updated features of the new Apple TV, like Siri and the Siri Remote.
We wanted to change what TV is and, to us, TV is about apps. In order to do that, we had to bring in a touch interface; the same thing you have with your iPhone and how it revolutionized things which was apps and a touch interface. So, we came up with a remote that actually lets you touch and slide across and move very quick and also takes advantage of things like Siri, so you can talk to it to find things. And then, bring the app ecosystem [to Apple TV] which – the greatest thing about apps is that you don’t know what people are going to do with them; they’ve created incredible apps that you’ve never thought of on iOS and we think the same thing is going to happen on television. — Eddy Cue, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services

I wish Apple and Amazon would play nice so we could find Amazon Prime Video through this search as well. We can do it with Netflix and Hulu so why not Amazon?
That would be nice. I have to switch between my ATV and Roku to watch Amazon Prime shows.
I do Amazon Prime from my iPad. Works fine.
Will Amazon build a Amazon Prime app for Apple TV? That would be super.
I think it will likely happen. I see no reason for Amazon not to support AppleTV. Why would Amazon not want Amazon Instant Video to be on every platform? I’d hardly think it would eat into Fire TV sales because Fire TV offers plenty of features that AppleTV doesn’t offer. Jeff Bezos is pretty smart and I don’t believe he’d keep Amazon IV from AppleTV and lose potential viewers. I’ll always likely have two streaming boxes so I can always switch. Besides my smart TV supports Amazon fairly well, but my Roku 3 is my go-to box.
At one point PLEX was going to support an Amazon Instant Video channel but I don’t know what ever happened to that.
Way to go Apple, they will sell lots and lots of these babies. Finally there might be something worth viewing.
I can’t wait to get my hands on one of these babies. I already know what my family members are getting in their Xmas stockings.
I suspect that the Apple TV piece needed to be done before Apple could fully unleash its cable-killing TV subscription model. Once a few million people get settled in with their new Apple TVs, I expect Apple will announce their TV subscription service–probably in early 2016. Apple does everything in steps and never gets ahead of itself.

Why do I have register each on my channels one at a time? I have Cox Cable. And to take advantage of many of the channels on ATV, I need to tell each channel my Cox UN PW.
Why can’t I enter this info just once for all of them?
Plus, I have done this already on my current ATV. Will I have to do this all over again when my new ATV arrives?

Does it have VPN or is it just a useless box?
That’s an interesting question. Seeing as TVOS is basically iOS, which is a minimized version of OS X on ARM based CPUs, it should be entirely possible to run the TV using a VPN over the Internet. VPN on iOS works great! I’ve been using the ProXPN VPN on iOS lately with success. It’s up to Apple to allow that capability, and I expect they will.
As to TV being a useless box, NEVER!
