“Tens of thousands of people who bought MacKeeper have filed for refunds as part of a proposed class-action settlement against the application’s former developer,” Jeremy Kirk reports for IDG News Service. “The number of refund requests has far exceeded what is typical in these type of lawsuits, surprising even experienced class-action lawyers.”
“But the unfortunate side effect of the robust response means those who’ve applied will probably get a smaller refund,” Kirk reports. “The class-action suit was filed in May 2014 on behalf of Pennsylvania resident Holly Yencha, who contended that MacKeeper falsely flagged security and performance problems in order to coax consumers into paying $39.95 for the full version.”
“MacKeeper has been dogged for years by accusations it is so-called scareware, a term for applications that use intimidating warnings to get consumers to buy the program,” Kirk reports. “The lawsuit was filed against ZeoBIT, a company started in Ukraine that originally developed MacKeeper. ZeoBIT no longer owns MacKeeper and sold it in April 2013 to Kromtech Alliance Corp. of Cologne, Germany. Kromtech, which is not a party in the lawsuit, says it has undertaken efforts to rehabilitate MacKeeper and address some of the longstanding criticisms of the program.”

MacKeeper is this decade’s RAMDoubler.
Not many youngin’s will even know what RamDoubler was, but I doubt it was even half as bad as this virus known as MacKeeper.
Wasn’t RAMDoubler a form of RAM compression? Did the developer behind it stoop to low levels just to sell the app? I don’t have any recollection of that, but MacKeeper is definitely slimy!
RAMDoubler never worked. It was fake code. And they got caught.

They should have never purchased the software. Stopping all production and burying it forever is the best answer.
Any Mac person with some knowledge will forever stay away from anything called “MacKeeper”.
You’d think that if they were doing the same thing they’d change the name so as to not be tarnished with the existing bad publicity and be able to sell it to more dupes. If they were changing it to be a proper app you’d think they’d change the name so as to not be tarnished with the existing bad publicity so they can sell it legitimately. Either way the name still existing seems stupid.
I thought the way it was marketed online was a sure sign, and made it obvious, to avoid like the plague. Don’t be so gullible Mac McFly’s!
They are still selling the software and using the same tactics. So nothing has really changed.
I feel a bankruptcy is coming soon. The cologne company could be liable if they carry on as they are.
Google has invested heavily in MacKeeper because of its data gathering capabilities which explains the massive web advertising campaign it’s been running for them.
Mac keeper is just malware and does nothing but slow your Mac down and attract more malware. If you have it installed drag the application to the trash. An uninstaller should pop up and click uninstall with the comment of your software is malware. Empty trash and restart your Mac. That crap is now gone and you will probably notice a speed increase immediately.
MacKeeper is junkware, and I tell every customer of mine to get rid of it. It does nothing to improve the performance of the Mac, and it is quite good at draining your wallet.

GO FOR THE CASH.
You can buy literally ANY alternative to MacKeeper and benefit from the results. That’s IMHO of course. I consider MacKeeper to be THE definition of ‘crapware’ on the Mac platform. Not Kidding. Get rid of it.
