“Screenwriter Aaron Sorkin wrote his Steve Jobs movie to take place during three distinct events in the tech pioneer’s life: the launch of the Apple Macintosh in 1984, the launch of the NeXTcube in 1988, and the launch of the Apple iMac in 1998,” Wired reports.
“To keep with the mood and feel of each of those times, director Danny Boyle filmed Steve Jobs in three different formats: 16mm, 35mm, and digital,” Wired reports.That evolution of formats, Boyle says, is meant to show Jobs’ transformation from young computer rebel to the man behind the sleek and sexy Apple machines we know today.”

Pixar was a fundamental component to making Steve Jobs, the man. This is an error to leave out or even gloss over.
Danny Boyle DIDN’T DO ANYTHING. His two assistant directors did all the work. he always didn’t give credit where it is deserved. For a large part of the movie insiders said he was vacationing in Palm Springs.
Sorkin also used the script written by somebody else . According to well placed film executives cognizant of the issue the writer has a Non Disclosure agreement. (the script was considered so inaccurate that no one wanted it as it was thought to be ‘un -film-able’ . Sorkin said “Who gives a f–k it’s inaccurate? Does it have HATE? ” )
There were also violent disagreement between the some consultants on the movie who said that all the scenes were fake and a farce. One consultant said he told Sorkin “Jobs was displeased on a certain issue , looked angry but kept silent” and Sorkin exaggerated it into a screaming tantrum (“Sorkin basically turned a fire cracker into an Atom Bomb” said the source” )…
(Hey I just made all the above up, just like Boyle and Sorkin made up the movie … from their imaginations. )
I think you are closer to the truth about this movie than Sorkin is about Job’s life.
Nobody who ever worked with Sorkin would believe he used someone else’s screenplay. It’s unlikely a single word was written by anyone but him.
Except that these were NOT three events in the “tech pioneer’s” life. They were three events in Sorkin’s mind.
Nothing like getting paid $2 million dollars for writing three scenes that don’t even try to be accurate. Here’s my full take on the film:

Sorkin did much worse in his movie and his comments like ” Apple pays child workers 17 cents an hour ” …. (isn’t that MORE anger –and completely wrong btw – than any of our comments?) if ours is ‘anger and venom’ his must be ‘insane’ anger and ‘vicious’ venom …. )
At least in my post I NOTED it was in MADE UP, in jest , his 17 cents comment was put out at a public announcement as ‘facts’….
He makes claims that his movie is ‘true’ in it’s intent (and so people wrongly now believe ‘Apple Stole the GUI’ is a ‘fact’ ) .
Sorkin doesn’t Care ABOUT HURTING REAL PEOPLE like Jobs friends, Jobs family like Laurene and her children, thousands of Apple Employees and Shareholders ) — and his power is much much more powerful than us poor posters on MDN, all to add more millions to his millions …

If the REAL Jobs wasn’t important why make a movie called ‘Steve Jobs’ (instead of fiction movie of a tech titan ‘Bob Smith’ or something) , it’s because people want to see ‘STEVE JOBS’ and they are being short changed, lying about about Job’s life and accomplishments (like the GUI) is low.

Let’s get very clear on this. Movies are not real life. They are not MEANT to be slavishly (one of MDN’s favorite words) accurate and completely fact based. They are cinematic ART meant express ideas, and feelings… not stenographically present in mind numbing detail the day to day events. If you want that there are jobs you can get as security guards where you can watch real life incessantly. This film is intentionally inaccurate, knowingly inaccurate… it HAD to be inaccurate to put into two plus hours the sweep and scope of the conflicts, impact, ideas, importance, and issues with a remarkable man. Nobody who knows ANYTHING about ART would say.. that Picasso should have only painted realistic paintings, or that Starry Night is crap because it doesn’t really look like that. MOST art.. is in fact NOT realistic or “accurate” Most photos on Instagram, or Facebook are not “Accurate”… even most factual Biographies are not “accurate” in that you don’t know what their subjects ate every day, or what arguments they got into over lack of money, or how often they had sex. This idea.. that we must have note for note accuracy in our movies is pure fantasy and epic bullshit. It’s ART.. you either like it or you don’t. If you don’t quit fucking whining about it like some teenager. Go look at some art you DO like and let your negativity about what apparently MANY others find entertaining alone. Will some come away from this with a skewed opinion. .thinking it’s all factual? Sure. But that happens every day all day in all media about everything from french fries to house paint. there’s art and there’s lying.
You can make a movie about historical figures and make certain ‘artistic’ tweaks like condensing conversations but twisting the truth completely? Is is OK for artistic reasons to show a movie of Picasso which says he did not actually paint but an assistant did all the work and call it ‘fact’ ? Making up practically all the situations in the Jobs movie (Woz says none of the conversations actually happened) and having such ‘facts’ as Apple stole the GUI is ‘artistic license’ it’s lies like some tabloid to make money.
go read the NYT editorial from Joe Nocera who knew Jobs at NEXT, he says the Jobs at that time was completely different and unrecognizable (in his actions, behaviour and even mannerisms) from the film. (note that NYT is not the most ‘friendly’ newspaper to apple, winning a Pulitzer criticizing Apple recently ).

Of course sorkin defenders will bring up the shows principle ‘consultant’ Woz , but Woz ALSO loved Mike Daisey’s shows and even defended Daisey AFTER he was discovered to have lied about meeting Apple child workers. Woz said he was happy Daisey was teaching companies like Apple a lesson.
To promote the movie (he’s an official consultant) his been around telling everyone Jobs knew nothing about tech.

The OTHER main consultant of the movie was Chrisann Brennan Jobs estranged girlfriend (like the view from one half of a bad divorce). That’s the (Apple has child workers for 17 cents an hour ) Sorkin movie.

Jane Austen suffered just such an indignity with the publication of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2009). It’s been optioned for a movie, slated for next year and I can hardly wait for the bloodletting! There are the two schools of film criticism who will club each other bloody over their warring authentic vs. postmodern interpretations. The novel’s adoring fans will of course show up at the premiere to gouge one another’s eyes out over the travesty of upstart artists corrupting a canonical work, turning a finely crafted exposé of period manners into post-apocalyptic violence and psychobabble. I for one will be there, with bells on. 😀
It’s all so much more fun for all when the subject has been dead a good long while, long enough for perspective to happen.

What was that movie that revealed that the Moon landing was faked? Didn’t George Washington appear in that?
If George Washington said “I cannot tell a lie,” was he lying? And if he did not say it, did he in fact chop down that cherry tree? Or was the whole story a hatchet job?
I knew the guy who owns the actual hatchet that George used to chop down that cherry tree. . . he assured me that it was the very hatchet. . . “Why,” he said, “it’s had only had the head replaced four times and the handle six times. . . but it is the original hatchet!” He swears it is. . . and he has a type written letter from the guy he bought it from for $10,000, attesting to these facts! It’s authentic too, typed on an authentic IBM Selectric from 1860. . . He has a letter on it’s authenticity too. . .
The real question, though, is WHY did he chop down the cherry tree? Did he hate cherry pits because they chipped his teeth, leading to painful dental work? Was he overly apprehensive about Indian attacks, shrewdly clearing the surrounding landscape (he’d have worried over the fate of Macbeth from an encroaching Birnam Wood)? Scholars have recently suggested that young George may have suffered from an allergy to cherry blossoms, and that theory is nothing to sneeze at.
I manage a dental office and dentures needs a very hard, dense wood in them, thar days to make the teeth. Perhaps he was anticipating needing to cure some cherry wood for a pipe and dentures even at that young age? Perhaps his daddy needed both and he was intending to surprise Pops Washington with a hand carved pipe and set of custom dentures. Who knew that the Father of Our Country had an early desire to study primitive dental prosthetics?
I wish Danny Boyle was as deeply thoughtful about his screenplay content …as he was about his stupid formats!
