“Our most recent data shows that people in Asia are adopting the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus the fastest, especially when it comes to the larger 6S Plus,” Dave Hoch reports for Localytics. “But before we dive into the country-specific data, it’s important to look at overall adoption growth in the last week.”
“Globally, the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus now account for 2.6% of all iPhones, representing a 0.7 percentage point increase over last week’s results. This indicates that the most growth came in the first week — likely due to people who pre-ordered their phones and received them in the first couple days after release,” Hoch reports. “In comparison, last year’s iPhone 6 and 6 Plus accounted for 4.0% of all iPhones, two weeks into their availability in 2014.”
Hoch reports, “Of the 12 countries where the 6S and 6S Plus are available, Japan has adopted the new models the fastest, as the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus now account for 6% of all iPhones in Japan.”

Those comparative percentages are misleading. There are now hundreds of millions more iPhones in the world than there was in 2014. A smaller percent of iPhones can be a larger absolute number. Perhaps this was addressed in the linked article, I admit I did not read it.

12 million units at 4% last year
And 17 million units at 2.7% this year.
The differance comes from the userbase increase from last year …

Good point, but take note:
-I have not seen any data to support your claim that there are hundreds of millions of more iPhones in the world now compared to last year;
-Phones die and people stop using older phones, so there are iPhones that were in circulation last year that aren’t now; and
-It’s unclear how they’re tracking total iPhones and what they’re including, which also means how many countries are tracked this year compared to last?
We go through this rodeo every year. Every year Apple brags about sales, but when you peel back the layers, there’s flaws. For example, they’ll say they have record sales compared to the previous year, yet in many cases Apple was selling into more countries. Over the past few years, when comparing YOY and accounting for an increased number of countries being sold into, iPhone sales are flat or declining.
Apple sales figures will tell you 220 million iPhones sold in the last 4 reported quarters. That’s all countries. Hard to tell what Samsung et al are selling as they are too embarrassed to report, but their declining dollar sales and profits say enough. You are a total FUDster as you don’t want to compare world wide sales, but only specific markets. All that counts is the world, and all that counts in the world is the profits from selling to the world, And Apple’s sales are up over 20% and its share of profits is now up to 90%.

-Are we talking about iPhones in circulation or total iPhones sold to date?
So where there was ample supply of the 6S and short supply of the 6S Plus, it would seem. Apple was thinking the right way but still missed the mark. It might be because of the LED backlight or it might be they missed he mark reguardless of how tight it was.
I hope they make the iPhone 7 and the 7+ with the same resolution screen and camera, next year. I wouldn’t mind the smaller phone.
Most people get the smaller version? I couldn’t imagine. Once in a while my wife hands me her 6 and it just feels so small having been used to the 6 Plus. To me it feels more like a previous generation than a comparable model. Perhaps that’s because I had the 6 for 2 weeks while I waited for my 6 Plus to arrive. Luckily I didn’t have to suffer with a 6s this time around and my 6s Plus arrived on iPhone Day.

It is wonderful that you get your choice of sizes. I am genuinely happy for you. Millions of us who would prefer an iPhone with the current technology that we can use with one hand are not so lucky. Use cases differ. If you can’t imagine using a smaller phone yourself, try to imagine someone else doing so quite happily. It’s easy if you try.
I got to play with a 6plus last weekend at a wedding, felt like a iPad micro rather than an iPhone.
I can’t use it one handed, looked huge up to my head as if I were on a call. (Yes I use Bluetooth, *when* I can, but half or more of my calls are without it)
The owner is 6’8″ and the 6 plus looked like an iPhone 4 in his hands..
I’ll keep my 6, and the 7 better have the same size or I’ll just get a 6S.
