“Yesterday, Apple updated its iWork apps for iOS and OS X with added features including Split View for iPad, 3D Touch for iPhone 6s, and bonuses for El Capitan,” Cam Bunton reports for 9to5Mac.
“Missed at the time was the fact that Apple also deemed the web-based version of iWork worthy of full consumption by the public, too,” Bunton reports. “Apple removed the ‘beta’ label from iWork for iCloud, while also adding a number of new features.”
Bunton reports, “The browser-dependent iWork suite now supports commenting on documents, and has support for ten new languages.”

Wow! So the iCloud version of Pages still has parity with the Mac version… which is a crippled replacement for the program of the same name Apple introduced in 2006.
I use Pages every single day, Pages ’09 that is. One of the key reasons I don’t uses Pages 5 is they left out the Two Up view, the ability to see two pages on the screen at once. With every release of Pages 5 I have given user feedback for this and other features that were left out, but it has fallen on deaf ears.
Same here – I still use the Pages ’09 just for the two up view and the linking of text boxes. Why Apple can’t provide at least those two features for so many of us that depended on those features is beyond me.
Its features such as these that made it such a superior alternative to Word or even some low end page layout tools that added so much value.
Apple – a lot of us still need a pickup truck.
Weird isn’t it, these two useful functions shouldn’t be difficult to include and surely linked text boxes are a basic necessity for many.
When Apple staged its Kristallnacht and replaced Pages 4 with Pages5 version 1, removing all the features but the alphabet, I contacted California Consumer affairs with a detailed complaint. They sad that it was a criminal complaint and a matter for the attorney general. They gave me a link. I decided that that was going too far and that Apple would fix their mistake anyway.
I was wrong. I should have contacted the Attorney General.
I still am an Apple fan but I will never again trust Apple software. I will always be ready to bail out. That means I’m prepared to dump OS X Hanna Barbera for Linux. Linux looks more mature anyway.
Thats great. It will just get better and better moving forward.

I wonder if they have added back the functionality removed from the Mac versions of iWork that were removed when it was re-architected for compatibility with iOS and the web versions…
Those who actually used these apps for work have long since moved back to MS Office.
I moved back to Excel because the charting in Numbers was woeful. I moved back to word when I discovered I could no longer include auto numbering in chapter headings or embed a landscape table.
Perhaps the IBM experiment will refocus Apple on those who use macs for work rather than for play. The most egregious example of this mistake was Final Cut Pro X – even now this app is still stuck with the remnants of iMovie sensibilities along with the “we know better than you how you should work” attitude.
I like Pages – and I use it for simple documents. But I switch to Word for anything serious. I prefer keynote but I find Numbers too much like a toy.
