CBS CEO Moonves says Apple TV content deal is likely

“CBS Corp.’s discussions with Apple Inc. over TV programming will probably lead to a deal, CBS Chief Executive Officer Les Moonves said,” Scott Moritz reports for Bloomberg.

“”‘Apple is having conversations with everyone about doing their own streaming services,’ Moonves said in an interview Wednesday on Bloomberg TV. ‘We have had those conversations, as have the other networks. Do I think something will happen? Probably, but I do not know when,'” Mortiz reports. “CBS is having similar discussions with other companies including Facebook Inc. and Netflix Inc. about rights to stream TV shows and live broadcasts over the Internet, Moonves said.”

Mortiz reports, “CBS, with popular shows like ‘The Big Bang Theory’ and ‘Criminal Minds’ is one of the key elements to a live subscription service that Apple hopes to use to revolutionize TV.”

  1. If this week’s episode of The Big Bang Theory, all less than 18m50s of it out of 30m, are any indication, he can keep his content. What a lousy episode. They are getting too short to even make any sense. (I know, they don’t even make any sense for some of you.) Wasn’t there law about how much of a show could be commercials back in the 60’s? I seem to remember that.

    1. You watch shows from the 1960s on DVD and an hour show had 51 or 52 minutes of content. Today, it’s 40-42. That’s why I rarely watch anything live. It’s either recorded and watched later so I can skip the commercials or watched on Blu-ray. And, yes, you can watch 3 episodes of a sitcom in an hour these days. Sad.

    1. CBS has a great deal of fun entertainment, but they have a habit of limiting how much of it they allow you to view on the Internet.

My guess is that an AppleTV deal with CBS will include commercials. Probably the same commercials that play on their Internet site. Over and over and over and over… Especially those scary viagra women.

They will also restrict you to the last 2 or 3 episodes of some programs, and charge a fee on top of that. It won’t be a pleasant experience.
