Why Apple Watch sales are primed to explode

“With Apple Watch availability, functionality, and style options all poised to explode at the same time, there’s a good chance that Apple’s new wearable will soon experience a dramatic uptick in sales,” Yoni Heisler writes for BGR. “And with the busy holiday shopping season fast approaching, the timing couldn’t be better.”

“‘Through the end of the quarter,’ Tim Cook explained two months ago, ‘the Apple Watch sell-through was higher than the comparable launch periods of the original iPhone or the original iPad. And we were able to do that with having only 680 points of sale,'” Heisler writes. “Looking ahead, it appears that Apple Watch availability is on the cusp of skyrocketing.”

“Starting next week, the Apple Watch will reportedly be available for purchase from both Sprint and T-Mobile stores,” Heisler writes. “Additionally, Best Buy announced this past summer that the Apple Watch will be available across 200 brick and mortar stores before the 2015 holiday shopping season.”

Apple Watch
On the back of Apple Watch’s case, a ceramic cover with sapphire lenses protects a specially designed sensor that uses infrared and visible-light LEDs and photodiodes to detect your heart rate. Apple Watch uses this sensor, along with an accelerometer and the GPS and Wi‑Fi in your iPhone, to measure myriad types of physical movement.

“Notably, the device will also be available for purchase via Best Buy’s website,” Heisler explains. “Further, Apple is also expanding Apple Watch availability worldwide, with the company adding a number of new authorized re-sellers to the mix in Australia and a number of European countries.”

MacDailyNews Take: The more outlets, the better as Apple Watches are even more functional when your friends and family have them, too!

  1. I think the new mat Gold Midnight Blue & Rose Gold Sand White WATCH SPORT models are game changers for the line. I can’t wait for an WATCH 2 to go on sale sonIbcan buy a new 42mm Gold Midnight Blue WATCH SPORT!😱💥⌚️😜👀🔜

    1. You guys… same old… Apple Watch sales about to explode! You guys are going to keep pushing this quarter after quarter trying to will it into action.

Smartwatches are not a forgone conclusion. As much as us geeks like new toys, it’s not clear anyone needs a smartwatch, let alone a $400+ one that’s effectively superfluous to a smartphone.

The bottom line: people need smartphones more than they need smartwatches, not the other way around.

The smartwatch has fatal flaws such as a tiny screen which hampers any chance for usable software in most cases. I went through an Apple Store again today and tested an Apple Watch (been there done that many times since I returned mine). I still don’t get it. It’s just useless to me. I like my laptop and iPhone 6 Plus. That’s all I need and use.

Ironically, I do want to track some exercise stuff and may bite the bullet on a fitbit. Never thought I would as I was interested in buying into the Apple Watch world. But smartwatches are useless and a waste of money. Like everyone else, Apple is struck with the problem of a watch being a very poor medium to compute on. Nothing they can do will change this.

Aside from my take, there are many review videos from reputable sources, including from Techno Buffalo, offering retrospective reviews of the Apple Watch. John at Techno Buffalo concludes that the Apple Watch is not that useful and doesn’t recommend buying it.

If the watch was that great, it’d be flying off the shelves. But it’s not.

  2. I doubt that a genuine expert would use the word “explode” when writing about watches.

    Pro-Apple Watch propaganda, anyway.

The watch is good, but I won’t even think of buying it for a generation or two. By then, Apple will probably have an app that will let you summon your self-driving Apple car and have it pick you up.

    1. Au contraire. There are roughly 500 million iPhone users who are candidates for an Apple Watch. More by the end of the year as the 6S is expected to sell about 80 or 90 million units by the end of the year. If less than ten percent buy a Watch that would be about 50 million units which would be a huge number for this year.

  3. Surely, no one but the most ardent pro-Apple loyalists believe this. I honestly thought mostly everyone believes AppleWatch to be a failure in terms of sales and nearly no consumers will be buying them. Most of the smartwatch industry is pushing the Fitbit as being the wearable to have. I personally don’t think smartwatches are going to be sold in large quantities and certainly not a boom for Apple.

There are those who keep saying Apple will increase in value due to a number of various products but I see no indication of that happening even the slightest bit. Merely offering a product in quantity doesn’t necessarily lead to consumers purchasing it in quantity. Instead of AppleWatch sales exploding most believe it will implode. With Apple, it’s hope for the best but be ready for the worst.

    1. $203 billion in the bank must be really, really, really bad for Apple. OMG! Implosion at its worst!

With Apple, making a boatload of money does not mean a darn thing …apparently.

    2. You sir must live in the woods somewhere. People have began buying Apple watches. I’m seeing at least two a day now. I have friends who text me when they buy them asking if I can show them how to use it.

And I’m not in a major city either. The watch is popular and it is becoming a must have device just as the iPhone is.

  4. I’m wondering how limitless our capacity is for yet more screen time on various devices. I don’t think I’m the only one who’s usage level has increased dramatically over the past few years, especially as these devices (Apple et al) become more capable/useful and just plain fantastic.

I’ve resisted the Apple Watch somewhat for this reason, even though I realize it is actually supposed to ‘reduce’ screen time. At some point, probably sooner than later, I’ll no doubt try it… and love it. But there is this question that persists…

    There’s an old saying:

Here lies the victim of modernity. Yesterday s/he didn’t have time. Today s/he has eternity.

    Just a thought.
