“On Wednesday September 9, Apple will unveil its next generation Apple TV,” John Paczkowski reports for Buzzfeed. “The device is a significant overhaul of its hoary predecessor, with more powerful innards and a new remote that sources say has been ‘drastically improved’ by a touch-pad input and, as first reported by TechCrunch and independently confirmed by BuzzFeed, motion sensors that will allow it to function as game controller.”
“The forthcoming Apple TV will debut with a number of big features we reported back in March — an App Store of its own and Siri integration that will support what sources in position to know describe as ‘some pretty hardcore voice control,'” Paczkowski reports. “But there’s another tentpole feature coming to the new Apple TV as well — and it’s one for which anyone with the old Apple TV has been pining for years. Universal search. While Apple’s intelligent personal assistant is core to this feature, sources say there’s another engine driving it as well — Matcha, the video discovery start-up Apple acquired back in 2013.”

Been thinking about a smart TV since 2004 when I first connected my MBP to my TV via s-video. Most exciting product announcement in years. For me at least.
Wonder if models will be tiered in price matching storage capabilities? Gaming apps will be huge on this – so sayeth Captain Obvious!
Ditto on whether iTunes will start bumping up offerings to 4K to a new Apple TV device so equipped?

I wouldn’t hesitate to pay 150 bucks for that.
Never thought I’d see the day where Apple TV is the product I’m most looking forward to at a special event.
I kinda liked my hoary processor the way it was…
Investors will inevitably be disappointed that a $149 AppleTV won’t match the gaming capabilities of the PS4 and Xbox One consoles. I know how these people think. I’ve already seen bloggers hinting in this direction. Apple needs to clearly define AppleTV so as not to mislead consumers into thinking they’re getting a gaming console but a streaming box that is capable of playing iOS games and running iOS apps.
Thus the Apple-sourced leaks to not one but two outlets on the same day: buzzfeed and 925Mac. They’re trying to shape expectations.
Notably, Apple sourced leaks always hold back some good stuff. Just to tweak us on the day of the event.
It’s a pleasure it is to be manipulated, don’t you think?
