Predictions for the next-gen MacBook Air

“A set of supposedly leaked specifications for Intel’s upcoming Skylake processors suggests some of the technical improvements we can anticipate within future MacBook Air models,” Jonny Evans writes for Computerworld. “As revealed by FanlessTech, the great and the good of the Mac rumor Web appear to have coalesced around the expectation these Macs will use chips from either/both the Core i5-6200U (2.3GHz and 2.4GHz) and Core i7-6500U (2.5GHz and 2.6GHz). The processors offer integrated Intel HD 520 graphics and are built using Intel’s new 14-nanometer architecture.”

“That use of smaller process architecture should translate into up to 30 percent better battery life, around 34 percent faster graphics and a 10-20 percent CPU performance,” Evans writes. “Force Touch. While critics don’t think Force Touch will help the company sell too many smartphones or Macs, they kind of miss the point; this is about introducing a new user interface solution to enable new breeds of easy-to-navigate yet extraordinarily powerful applications.”

MacDailyNews Take: What do we want most? Retina displays. But, the MacBook is pretty much perfect for our mobile computing needs already. If fact, the next-gen iPad(s) with iOS 9 and Split View might be perfect enough for our mobile computing needs, too. We’ll have a decision to make soon!

  1. Since the latest Macbook is very much “airy” my wish is that they just loose the Macbook airs entirely. Go Macbook, and then Macbook pro. Much simpler! What do you think?

    1. With the MacBook going so thin, I’m not sure what the theme for the two models are suppose to be now.
If they do keep both, then pick one of the consumer models to have more than one port, please.

  2. “what do we want most?”

The #1 reason for upgrading a mobile device is diminished/poor battery life. After 2 years of usage the average Lithium-Ion battery has lost ~35% of its design capacity (requiring more frequent charges).

  3. I wish Apple would come out with a 14″ MacBook. The 12″ is too small IMHO. Then they have two sizes of each of MacBooks and MacBook Pro’s and drop the Airs.

Much simpler product lines if you ask me. Air seems like the red headed stepchild anymore.

  4. I want a hybrid ( pad, notebook) device with adaptable/scalable os … Bringing osx and ios much closer if not seamless!

The new macbook is proof it can be done beautifully !
Its time already .. If not late…
( with MS pushing windows 10 and surface to enterprise.. Apple has to counter ….if they are seriouse about the enterprise ! )
