Apple’s 12.9-inch ‘iPad Pro’ is on the way

“Fresh leaks on Friday gave us a bit more of an idea about Apple’s forthcoming monster tablet, the iPad Pro,” Abhinav Mishra reports for Inferse. “According to the latest report coming out of Taiwan, the Cupertino giant is narrowing in on Samsung and Sharp to manufacture display panels for the upcoming tablet.”

“The next-gen. iPad will reportedly sport a 12.9-inch screen with a 2732 x 2048 resolution amounting to a pixel density of 264 ppi,” Mishra reports. “The report further said that Sharp will be primarily responsible to supply displays while the Korean giant Samsung will be used as back up.”

Mishra reports, “In addition, the report also mentions that Sharp is expected to start supplying display panels by September, implying that we can expect the monster tab’s debut in late Q3 or early Q4 this year.”

  1. 2732 x 2048 resolution is still a 4:3 (1.33) ratio, just like the existing iPads. That more squarish display format is better for smaller displays like the original iPad and the iPad mini, and it also simplifies app scaling. But, it seems to me that as displays grow in size, the 16:9 (1.78 ratio) HD format becomes increasingly useful, especially for split-screen work. I thought that the rumored iPad Pro might make a step towards the HD aspect ratio. I guess not.

  2. iOS and OS X El Capitan…
How can they run OS X on an A9 chip?!!!!!
The ONLY thing I care about is, if it’s AS GOOD, or BETTER THAN an Intel chip. Otherwise why care? Apple chose TWO different chips……one for OS X Mac, one for iOS iPad.
How do they get out of that? I don’t know.

  3. Why? They already have a MBA 13″ covering that segment. MBP 12″ was in itself a waste. Nowadays it looks like Apple just is rolling out products just for the heck of it. They dont seem to think through their product lineups. Quite franky it is ridiculous.
